Pax

In Latin, it means the Kiss of Peace

Around 1985 I was at a friend’s home whose black lab named Shasha, had been taken by a wolf while on her chain in the yard out back at his place, as in interbred. Shasha the day of my visit was having her pups, all was going good until the last one. She started whimpering an crying bad like, my friend says ” I cannot do it, I cannot help her” you gotta do something. I said look man, I’m no vet but your dog is in trouble, again he said ” I cannot do it” that’s about when I got pissed, fuck you man, I’ll do it. Shasha liked me from the first we met so I had working in my favor, ” having never done this ” got down on my kneess patting her head an talking to her in a calm voice a mix of English an Ojibwe, she understood I was not there to hurt her rather help her, I can still see her eyes getting wide when I pushed in the pup while turning it, then bloop! popped right out, Shasha just laid her head down like totally exhausted. Jake, when the time is right,

I’ll be back for this one, the runt

Next couple of weeks I made sure to go see the Shasha and Pax

dogs and wolves are different creatures

Because wolf-dog hybrids have a mixture of genetic traits, the behaviors they will exhibit and the personality they will possess is very unpredictable.

One example is that wolves and dogs regard territory very differently. Wolves like to roam, so your wolf-dog could try to escape all the time. They can jump, chew, or dig their way out of your garden and find their way onto a busy road.

They may mark their territory, including your house, with urine and poop.

Another item of interest is that some wolf dogs become very attached to their pack, namely your family and other pets

driving away anyone else. What I had with Pax was a catch-22

she had a Pack mentality the family and myself, that’s it She loved going for rides, thing is I’d pull in somewhere and if you knew me and came up to the truck to say hi, Pax’s ears would go down but she never got aggesive like, say you walked up to the truck without me in it, Pax wanted to eat your guts as a snack. and yet the kid could pull on her tongue pull her ears with no problem. I was going to tell you a story about dogs and the Ojibwe

Pax came to mind instead

just shy of a hundred pounds she was Had a State Trooper pull in my drive

Pax was on the hood of crusier like bark on a tree

white on rice works too

he gets on the horn

“does the dog bite?”

Walking down the drive I replied, well she hasn’t bitten me! After Pax was brought into the house, he gets out of the cruiser and says… “where the hell am I at?” he got lost we both had a good laugh at that
