The View from Here

Senator Lisa Murkowski, (squish, AK) has backtracked about voting for the President’s SCOTUS nominee. She must have seen some polling indicating the nomination was popular with her constituents. That locks up the vote, even if mittens or someone else changes their mind.

There’s talk in the House of moderate Dems facing tough re-election campaigns signing on to a discharge petition, forcing a vote on the Senate Chinese Coronavirus Relief package. As it stands, there are about a half dozen more signatures needed to reach 218 to force the vote.

I wrote about the indictments in the Breona Taylor case coming down earlier today. Since that announcement, “protesters” have swarmed downtown Louisville. There are images and video making the rounds showing Uhaul trucks filled with supplies for AntiFa and BLM.

God help the good people in Louisville tonight. That city is a tinderbox, and someone just lit a match.

Federal Judge William Stickman IV, of Pennsylvania’s Western District Court wrote an opinion striking down PA gov. Tom Wolf’s covid rulings.

“Even in an emergency,” he wrote, “the authority of government is not unfettered. The liberties protected by the Constitution are not fair-weather freedoms — in place when times are good but able to be cast aside in times of trouble.”

“The solution to a national crisis can never be permitted to supersede the commitment to individual liberty that stands as the foundation of the American experiment. The Constitution cannot accept the concept of a ‘new normal’ where the basic liberties of the people can be subordinated to open-ended mitigation measures.” He continued, “Rather, the Constitution sets certain lines that cannot be crossed even in an emergency. Actions taken by the defendant crossed those lines.”

Thusly, the PA Governor has been put in his place.

There is some encouraging news on the polling front today. A new ABC/WAPO poll found in Florida, likely voters split 51 percent for Trump to 47 percent for Biden, while registered voters split 47 percent for Trump to 48 percent for Biden. In Arizona, Trump’s margin is even smaller at 49 percent to Biden’s 48 percent among likely voters. Among Arizona’s registered voters, Trump is at 47 percent and Biden at 49 percent.

A Senate report on the activities of one Hunter Biden dropped today and it doesn’t look good. I’m trying to read through it, but honestly, it’s like trying to read SLA Marshall or Black Law Review. Dry and boring, but filed with interesting facts. If I ever finish, I’ll give you a breakdown, if I don’t, I’ll borrow someone else’s analysis. Maybe Catherine Herridge’s.

Mars Foods, the parent company of the rice brand formerly known as Uncle Ben’s has renamed and rebranded the iconic rice. Henceforth, it will just be called Ben’s Original rice.

I wonder if they tossed around the symbol Prince used for a while. . . . .

Joseph Michael Laurinaitis died at age 60. You may know him better as Animal, half of the WWF/E Tag team the Road Warriors. It appears he died of natural causes.
