The View from Here

Former congressman and Presidential candidate Ron Paul was hospitalized today after a medical emergency while on a Zoom conference. It’s believed the 85 year old Paul had a transient ischemic attack (TIA) and is currently in stable condition at the hospital.

Fortunately, Dr. Paul is doing ok. His son Rand tweeted out an update.

I debated putting in the video of Ron’s incident, as it may be upsetting to some. It shows, in graphic detail, the symptoms of a stroke or TIA. My main reason for including it was to raise awareness of the symptoms of stroke and TIA. So with that warning, here it is.

There are questions swirling around the future of Christopher Wray, the current director of the FBI. It’s rumored that the President is interviewing potential replacements for Wray. The President has not been shy about his disdain for the job Wray is doing. The latest indication that he’s on thin ice comes from Chief of Staff Mark Meadows. Meadows blasted the FBI director over his handling of election security.

Florida governor Ron DeSantis is reopening his state. He issued an order today that lifts most of the state level Chinese coronavirus restrictions. There are four major provisions of the order:

-It removes all remaining state-level restrictions on businesses, including on bars and restaurants, which were capped at 75% capacity in Phase 3 of DeSantis’ original reopening plan.

-It provides a general right to work and to operate a business. Local governments can limit and regulate businesses, but won’t be able to close businesses because of coronavirus concerns.

-Local governments won’t be able to prevent restaurants from operating at below 50% capacity. Under previous orders, local governments could go further than state-level restrictions, and counties in South Florida kept restaurants and bars closed after the state allowed them to reopen. Also, cities and counties won’t be able to impose any restrictions without an economic and health justification.

-Cities and counties can’t collect on any outstanding fines they issued as part of their pandemic response. The order, though, doesn’t compel local governments to refund anyone who has already paid a fine.

Rep. Dan Crenshaw from Texas just released an awesome new campaign video. That ad includes Republican Texas congressional candidates Beth Van Duyne, Wesley Hunt, Tony Gonzales, August Pfluger and Genevieve Collins. WATCH:

Virginia governor “Blackface” Ralph Northam and his wife Pamela have tested positive for the Chinese Lung AIDS. This seems like a good time to remind everyone that the WuFlu is not a death sentence. It’s slightly less fatal than the seasonal flu, if slightly more contagious. I’d also point out, more people over 65 have died with covid than those under 65. And nearly all deaths have had at least one significant co-morbidity.
