If you’re reading this while in Michigan, make sure to check your Mega Millions ticket for last night’s drawing. A single ticket with the winning numbers was sold at a Kroger in Novi, just north of Detroit. That ticket is worth an estimated one billion dollars.
Welp, it’s started already. There’s a new tax on the horizon. Sleepy Joe has floated the idea of a mileage tax to fund the Highway trust fund. The current federal fuel tax is the current funding source for the interstate highway system and federal highway grants. No word on whether or not the gas tax would be repealed. . . .
Alexei Navalny is the Russian opposition politician who was poisoned with novichok by Russian state security actors. He recently returned to Russia from Germany where he was being treated. His prompt arrest and nailing inflamed the anti-putin factions in Russia, and there have been large demonstrations since the news of Navalny’s arrest and detention leaked out. Putin has tried to crack down on the protests, arresting several prominent opposition figures, including Navalny’s wife.
A California man was bitten by a shark while on vacation in Hawaii. The 78 year old man was bitten while snorkeling by an estimated 8 foot long shark.

The FBI is using some very scary tactics in trying to piece together what happened on 6 Jan. and identify those responsible. According to reports, the feebs are visiting everyone who’s cell phone pinged the cell towers directly adjacent to Capitol Hill. Let’s be clear here, about 90% of those involved are looking at a misdemeanor charge of illegal entry. This is a gross overreach and a clear violation of civil rights.
Don’t expect this to end any time soon. In fact, look for it to get worse for a while.
Your Editor has been very lucky so far this winter. It’s been averaging about 5-10° warmer than normal and the snow totals are about 60 inches behind where they are in an average year on this date.
That ended last night/today. The temperature dropped into the low teens overnight and the high today was 21°. And with the cold air, the lake effect snow machine turned on. I woke to a fresh 6″ of snow today, and it’s been snowing on and off most of the day. I’d guess that around a foot has fallen in the past 36 hours or so. Given that the grass was bare Wednesday, that’s a big change.
