Sometimes, the best place in the world to be as a kid was poking around the wooden bins in your dad’s work shop. An entire side of his shop was lined with wooden shelving of different sizes and dimensions. Aside from the normal nuts, bolts and washers of varying sizes was the collectible section. And that included the unique items picked up with that $5.00 box of miscellaneous items purchased at the local farm and ranch sales or equipment sales.
And without question some of the best times were, exploring the contents of the great $5.00 “what is this” purchase? And you knew when you had struck gold in that new box of widgets, rasps, files, and at the bottom of the assortment was an antique apple corer or some other strange looking device that needed to be put to the side …because it fell in to the “dunno” category.
