60 Minutes Hit Piece on Ron DeSantis…

The Deranged 60 Minutes Hit Piece on Ron DeSantis Gives the Game Away

The left are terrified of Ron DeSantis, and that was never made more apparent than how 60 Minutes chose to handle the supposed “scandals” surrounding Florida’s vaccine program. RedState initially covered the absurdity last night. As Jennifer Van Laar put it in her write-up, the memo has gone out to destroy DeSantis, facts be damned.

While 60 Minutes attempted to make it seem like DeSantis had been paid off to allow Publix to host early, pop-up vaccination sites, the truth is much more mundane. You see, Publix has over 800 locations in Florida and also has large facilities and parking lots, a combination unmatched by smaller stores like CVS and Walgreens. Further, and more importantly, they were the only major outlet ready to go in January to start distribution. This is largely due to Publix already taking the lead in delivering millions of flu vaccinations a year. In other words, they had the systems and infrastructure in place.

But because Publix has donated to DeSantis’ PAC, that must mean corruption was afoot, right? Well, that’s what 60 Minutes wanted you to believe at least.

Notice the use of the term “obtained” like 60 Minutes went full ninja in getting these documents. In reality, they are public domain. It would take you about two minutes to find the same information. What CBS did was take said information and paint it as nefarious when it’s clearly not. And why did 60 Minutes not mention that Publix has donated to Democrats too? Wouldn’t that seem prudent to say given it provides much-needed context?

Of course, they also deceptively edited DeSantis’ defense to all this nonsense so nothing should surprise us anymore.

Regardless, as RedState pointed out yesterday, the former head of Florida’s Emergency Management organization, a Democrat who campaigned for Gore and Obama, debunked 60 Minutes’ framing and assertions.

    https://twitter.com/charlescwcooke/status/1378874040258068483?s=20

And with that, the entire “report” is shown to be false and worthless. There’s no actual journalism here, but rather, a deranged, hysterical admission that they are absolutely horrified by the possibility of Ron DeSantis running in 2024. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the media this scared, this early, of a possible presidential candidate. With Donald Trump, the media were convinced he’d be easy to beat right up until he won. With John McCain, they loved him until he challenged Barack Obama, at which point they flipped the switch.

But with DeSantis, we are sitting nearly a full three years out from the 2024 presidential campaign and the media are already showing their cards. I maintain that all they are doing is making him stronger, though. There’s nothing Republicans love more than someone who owns the media, and DeSantis does that in spades. You can expect him to rip 60 Minutes a new one after this spectacle. You can also expect the unfair derision he’s receiving to become a rallying cry.

What we are witnessing is the transformation of an already heavily biased press into an open opposition wing for the Democrat party. 60 Minutes, say what you will about it, was one of the few “news” shows left that maintained some level of seriousness and credibility. They’ve thrown that away now, and for what? To lie about DeSantis because they are scared of him? In the end, it won’t be worth it to their brand, but those who operate with such disregard for the truth for partisan gain rarely calculate long-term effects.

DeSantis isn’t going anywhere, and 60 Minutes’ reputation is in tatters. All in all, I’d say this backfired in glorious fashion.

Comment: I don’t believe most appreciate the precedence the Democratic Party have created for themselves. The purveyors of deceit and dishonesty. This started with the Russia Collusion and have brought us to the current day 2021 Impeachment….based upon one “wrap-up” smear after another. The Democrat Party is done and the collusion by the Republican Party is not far in the offing either. It leaves many scratching their heads, with a critical eye on local & state governments. IMHO Constitutional Representatives, like DeSantis are the future, as we watch the complicit government media self relegating themselves to the dust bins in history.

  • Easter, Some History

    Easter, Some History

Did you ever wonder where the term Easter came from? Or why we celebrate with colored eggs brought by a rabbit? Or How the Ressurection came to be associated with any of the traditions of modern Easter?

Well, get ready to learn all about that stuff.

Before we go down the rabbit hole, I feel compelled to point out a few things. First, this discussion is centered around Anglo Germanic traditions. Easter in French is Les Paques, in spanish it’s Pascua de Resurrección and Pasqua in Italian. All three are rooted in the Latin word ‘pascua’ meaning food which itself comes from the Hebrew word ‘pessah’ meaning passing way (or passage). Second, the early Church in an attempt to wipe out paganism co-opted a lot of pre-christian holidays and traditions.

To find the roots of the word Easter we need to get into the way-back machine and take a trip to pre-christian northern Europe. The germanic peoples there (that includes the Angles, Saxons, Jutes and Frisians who had settled in England by this time) celebrated the spring equinox with a feast for the goddess Eostre or Ostara. Eostre was the goddess of Spring, fertility and the dawn.

The only surviving attestation about Eostre’s feast comes from the Venerable Bede, an 8th century monk. In his work The Reckoning of Time, Bede states that during Ēosturmōnaþ (the equivalent of April), pagan Anglo-Saxons had held feasts in Ēostre’s honour, but that this tradition had died out by his time, replaced by the Christian Paschal month, a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus.

Can we be entirely sure that Easter is linguistically rooted in Eostre/Ostara? Probably not, however it sure looks that way. Without going too far into the weeds, etymologically speaking, the anglo-germanic languages use cognate words for Easter and they all are based on the local dialect version of Eostre/Ostara. The german word for easter, Ostern is closely related to Ostara, the german word for Eostre.

Now that we’ve (kind of) established the origins of the word, let’s take a look at the traditions.

Why a bunny? Well, seeing as Eostre was the goddess of fertility among other things, rabbits were one of her symbolic animals. There’s some truth to the old saw they breed like rabbits, and the pagans thought the rapidly reproducing animal was a good symbol for fecundity. It is notable that you only find the easter bunny tradition in areas that use the word Easter/Ostern to describe the Ressurection. A Parisian would give you the side eye if you asked where you could find an easter bunny in Paris.

Oddly enough, it’s the same thing with eggs, although they weren’t connected to Eostre. Many pre-christian societies celebrated spring with colored eggs. They were also considered a symbol of fertility by most ancient societies.

Veteran British filmmaker Philip Saville directs the religious epic The Gospel of John| a production of the Canadian company Visual Bible International. This three-hour drama attempts to accurately follow the Gospel According to John| written sometime during the first century. The gospel contains four segments: an introduction to the nature of Jesus Christ; testimony by disciples and the presence of miracles; the Last Supper and crucifixion; and the appearance of the risen Christ. Henry Ian Cusick plays Jesus and Christopher Plummer provides voice-over narration. The Gospel of John was shown in a special presentation at the 2003 Toronto Film Festival.

  • the Lilly

    the Lilly

There are several theories about Christian symbolism surrounding the Easter lily. Often referred to as “white-robed apostles of hope,” their color symbolizes the purity of Christ, who was free from sin. In many paintings, the angel Gabriel is depicted as handing Mary white lilies, which symbolizes her purity as well.

The trumpet shape of the Easter lily represents a trumpet sounding the message that Jesus has risen, and the nature in which lilies grow is symbolic of the resurrection as well. From ugly bulbs that are underground for three years or longer, they become beautiful flowers. This process is reminiscent of Jesus’s brutal death and holy resurrection. Thus, lilies represent rebirth and hope, just as the resurrection does in the Christian faith.

The lilly is also mentioned or alluded to several times in the Bible. Some think that it was white lilies that sprouted in the Garden of Eden as Eve’s remorseful tears fell to the ground. There are also theories that Easter lilies grew where Jesus’s tears and blood fell from the cross, and lilies were supposedly found in the Garden of Gethsemane after the crucifixion, tying them even closer to Easter.

2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.

3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:

4 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.

5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.

    Coup Attempt Foiled in Jordan

King Abdullah, l, and former Crown Prince Hamza

Jordanian authorities raided the palace of the kingdom’s former crown prince on Saturday and arrested two senior aides after uncovering what intelligence officials believe was an attempted coup against the ruling monarch, King Abdullah. The former chief of the royal court Bassem Awadallah, Prince Hamza’s chief of staff Yasser Majali and former Jordanian envoy to Saudi Arabia Hassan Bin Zayed are among those in custody related to the coup attempt.

Former Jordanian Crown Prince Hamzah bin Hussein has reportedly been placed under house arrest, although Jordanian officials deny he’s under arrest.

Military chief Yusef Ahmed al-Hunait said in a statement that he had been “asked to stop movements and activities that were used to target the security and stability of Jordan”.

Abdullah, who has ruled the kingdom since the death of his father, King Hussein, in 1999, had not been thought to have faced serious organised opposition throughout his two-decade reign. The kingdom had widely been viewed as a bastion of stability in an otherwise turbulent region.

Jordan has been a close and reliable US ally under the reign of King Abdullah. “We are closely following the reports and in touch with Jordanian officials,” State Department spokesman Ned Price said. “King Abdullah is a key partner of the United States, and he has our full support.”
