It Was 40 Years Ago Today. . .

That President Ronald Reagan was shot.

The assasination attempt occurred as Reagan was leaving the Washington Hilton after delivering a speech to the AFL/CIO. John Hinckley jr approached and opened fire. In addition to Reagan, James Brady, Reagan’s Press Secretary, Secret Service agent Timothy J. McCarthy and DC police officer Thomas K. Delahanty were wounded.

The president was hit under his armpit and the single bullet lodged near his heart. His Bodyman, Secret Service Agent Jerry Parr, immediately pushed Reagan into the waiting limo which immediately sped off. The driver initially headed for the White House, but Parr ordered it to go to George Washington University hospital instead after Reagan started coughing up blood. Reagan initially refused help to enter the emergency doors but he started to stumble and eventually collapsed just after getting inside the sliding doors of the emergency room.

The seriousness of his injuries was hidden from the public for some time. Only long after the event did it become widely known how close Reagan was to death. Had the limo continued on to the White House, it is probable that he would have died shortly after arriving there.

The would-be assasin, Hinkley claimed at trial that he was insane and that Jodie Foster wanted him to kill Reagan.

I didn’t vote for Ronald Reagan, I didn’t have the opportunity not turning 18 until 1985. He however is the biggest reason I’m a conservative today. I leave you with a video of a speech Reagan gave in Berlin just two short months after being shot. It epitomizes the man’s effortless cool and unflapability.

  • Spring Means Fishing

    Spring Means Fishing

In your editor’s home state, spring means fishing. Sure, you can ice fish in the winter months. But let’s be honest, only the clinically insane want to go out on a frozen lake, drill holes through the ice and sit there hoping something bites.

Unfortunately, this April 1st is going to be the last traditional trout opening day here in New York. The NYS Department of Conservation has issued new regulations that, going forward, will allow year round trout fishing in all the state’s creeks, streams, rivers, ponds and lakes. It has been heading in this direction for a while. There has been year round catch and release trout fishing on a limited number of streams and lakes for several years, with more bodies of water added periodically.

There are several species of trout available here. Brook trout, the official state fish, is native to the state. While brown trout (European imports) and rainbows (natives of the west coast) are introduced species. Lake Trout (mackinaw) are found in lake Ontario, the Finger lakes and some of the Adirondack lakes. Splake, a brook trout-lake trout hybrid, are found in some lakes in the adirondacks

Tackle for trout fishing can be as simple or complex as you choose. I have personally caught trout on everything from a cane pole to a spey rod and everything inbetween.

Early in the season, when the streams and creeks are high and muddy from snowmelt, I’ll typically reach for one of two spinning combos both spooled with 8lb Powerpro braid with an 8 foot long 4lb test flourocarbon leader. The length of the rod varies depending on where I’m fishing. If there’s a lot of brush and overhanging trees, I typically use an ultralight 5’6″ rod, if there’s more room, it’s a 7′ light action rod.

Unlike a lot of people around here, I almost exclusively use artificials. Soft plastics have come a long way from the pre-rigged Creme worms of my youth. I rely a lot on offerings from Berkely Powerbait. That said, there are times when you can’t beat a garden worm or a salted minnow. Whichever way you go, keep your hooks small and use just enough weight to keep your offering near the bottom. Slip floats can also be useful. They allow you to keep your bait in the zone without hanging up and act as a strike indicator.

During the high water period I also use the three S’s a lot. Spinners, Spoons and Stickbaits. I usually have an assortment of Mepps, Blue Fox, Panther Martin and Roostertail spinners, a selection of small, eighth ounce or so, chrome and gold spoons and a couple of gold and black and silver and black Rapalas in my tackle selection

Once the water levels start to drop I pick up the fly rods. An 8 1/2 foot 5-6 weight fly rod will suit for most trout streams.

I always carry an assortment of sizes of Adams, Elk-Hair Caddis, Royal Coachman, Black Gnat, Gold Ribbed Hares’s Ear, Prince Nymph, Muddler Minnow, Wooly Bugger, San Juan worm, black ant and hopper patterns in my fly box.

Got any trout tips? Take issue with anything of the things I’ve mentioned? Any good fish stories? Let us know in the comments below.

    why Longinus came to mind

Deirdre Hairston (Hariston) is a young Catholic mother. Deirdre, who is pregnant, already has a one-year-old. Recently, Deirdre Hairston was arrested DURING HOLY MASS for not wearing a mask.

Three police officers were waiting for her after she went to Holy Communion at Holy Trinity Church. She was kneeling down and holding her baby when the police officer said she needed to leave the mass.

When Deidre continued to kneel and pray the police officer grabbed her arm and tried to lift her and drag her out of the church. The officer told her she was trespassing by attending mass.

Deirdre later found out the main pastor ratted her out

The police officer then asked her for ID and told her she was going to arrest her.
She was told not to come back to this Catholic Church again.

    this is why Longinus

Thousands of men who limped home from the Korean War, hurt not by bullets but by relentless subzero cold, are making painful discoveries four decades later. Frost-injured limbs that once got better unexpectedly are getting worse with age.

Veterans who quietly overcame their injuries are suffering today from new symptoms that include infections, skin cancer, joint deterioration and extreme sensitivity to cold. In the worst cases, men are losing limbs to amputation as infections settle into stumps and scars that lack healthy nerves and circulation.

“Any front-line soldier or Marine has got to have a problem. And I was probably more fortunate than most of the victims.”

The battle at the Chosin Reservoir lasted about a week toward the end of 1950, ending in retreat. It is assumed that nearly all the 18,000 Allied soldiers and Marines who fought there suffered frostbite or some “cold injury.”

Frostbite occurs when ice crystals form inside tissues, destroying cells and blood vessels as they expand. Although less extreme, cold injury is an insidious condition in which prolonged exposure constricts vessels–cutting off circulation like a tourniquet. Extremities can die from lack of blood flow even though they don’t actually freeze.

In either case, surviving tissues are often left with damaged blood vessels and nerves. Later, the natural forces of aging, such as impaired circulation, can make once-manageable ailments intolerable.

Recognizing Vietnam War Veterans—It’s Been Coming for Some Time

A tune John Fogarty wrote in 1971 echoes among veterans who spent time in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. Lyrics reference a calm before a storm that’s “been comin’ for some time.” For many the turbulence continued long after departing Southeast Asia. Public sentiment roiled in a backlash of anti-war marches and protests when they returned. “Welcome Home” was rare and delivered in hushed tone—mostly from those with personal insight of where they had been.

It took a toll on a generation of some nine million members of our armed forces who served during a 20 year period from 1955-1975. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, approximately 7.2 million are living today. Healing wounds seen and unseen, suffered in spite of their burden, has been an unending effort across government agencies and the nation.

Since then veterans’ organizations, public and private partnerships have made strides in mending damage. Iconic tributes like the Vietnam Memorial and annual Rolling Thunder motorcycle rally in Washington, D.C. provide some comfort for a generation that lost 58,220 men and women. Meanwhile, the search continues for 1,600 service members throughout Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam who remain unaccounted.

The war has a complicated legacy that casts long shadows. Fifty years ago, Americans witnessed explicit images in photographs and television. Places like Khe Sanh, Hue, Tet, and My Lai summon indelible memories among those who survived, then faced the challenges of returning home. Soothing their injuries, both moral and physical, is ongoing. More recently the President signed the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act designating March 29 of each year as National Vietnam War Veterans Day.

The 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War became official following passage of the National Defense Authorization Act in 2008. By presidential proclamation in 2012, the commemoration extends through Veterans Day 2025. The tribute makes no distinction among veterans who served in-country, in-theater, or were stationed elsewhere during those two decades. All answered a call to duty.

Today gives everyone a chance to recognize Vietnam Veterans for their service and sacrifice during one of the longest conflicts in our country’s history.

White House Chaos: VP Harris Bucks Biden Order As Border Crisis Gets Even Worse

It’s becoming more clear that nobody seems to be in charge at the White House.

Recently, Biden tasked Vice President Kamala Harris to get America’s southern border secure, “The Vice President … agreed to lead our diplomatic effort and work with those nations to accept returnees and enhance migration enforcement at their borders — at their borders.”

Biden claimed that Vice President Harris would work with “the countries that need help in stemming the movement of so many folks, stemming the migration to our southern border.”

A few days later, Symone Sanders, Harris’s press secretary watered down Biden’s request.

“The president asked the vice president to take on the diplomatic effort, with Mexico and countries in the northern triangle to address the root causes of migration,” she said. “There are many reasons that move these folks to make this dangerous journey.”

That’s not what Biden said, below is an excerpt:

It’s our responsibility to deal with [the migration], humanely, and to in to stop what’s happening. So this [migration] increase has been consequential, but the Vice President has agreed …  —  and I appreciate it — agreed to lead our diplomatic effort and work with those nations to accept the returnees, and enhance migration enforcement at their borders, and their borders. [We added the emphasis]

Harris responded and said, “I look forward to engaging in diplomacy with government, with private sector, with civil society and the leaders of each in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras, to strengthen democracy and the rule of law, and ensure shared prosperity in the region.”

“This is an amazing dismissal by a vice president of her president in a very public fashion,” said Ken Cuccinelli, who served as deputy homeland security chief under President Donald Trump. “I cannot ever remember seeing this happen before.”

Meanwhile, the border crisis is getting worse.https://platform.twitter.com/embed/Tweet.html?

Comment: It would seem apparent to even the most ardent Biden supporter; that the human suffering and crisis created by the Biden Administration on our southern border is being avoided, by even the Vice President. All the while, Mr. Biden talks about “the plan” (and what plan would that be??)

    Phthalates

    I to was like you

    what the hell are Phthalates

you may be asking yourself right about now

Phthalates, or phthalate esters, are esters of phthalic acid. They are mainly used as plasticizers, , substances added to plastics to increase their flexibility, transparency, durability, and longevity.

it’s not good guys and ladies… well I can already hear the disappointment

STUDY: Chemical That Causes Penises To Shrink Found In Face Masks

    I know your reactions already

Phthalates has been linked to genital shrinkage, decreased fertility rates, and less masculine behavior in young boys

Dr. Shanna Swan, a professor of Environmental Medicine & Public Health at Mount Sinai Health System, has warned in a new book that phthalates, a chemical commonly used in the manufacturing of plastics, can shrink penises and decrease male fertility. A study listed in the National Center for Biotechnology Information, which operates under the National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health, found that the microplastics used in the manufacturing of Covid face masks contain a number of toxic chemicals, including the penis-shrinking phthalates

Dr. Swans’s book “Count Down: How Our Modern World Is Threatening Sperm Counts, Altering Male and Female Reproductive Development, and Imperiling the Future of the Human Race” warns that humanity is facing an “existential crisis” in fertility rates as a direct result of the chemical phthalates, and most men may be “infertile by 2045”.

As Sky News reported, Dr. Swan found that “male human babies who had been exposed to the phthalates in the womb had a shorter anogenital distance – something that correlated with penile volume.” Dr. Swan’s research also discovered that rats exposed to phthalates were born with shrunken genitals.

Reports from 2009 on a study by Swan that found young boys whose mothers were exposed to high levels of phthalates were more likely to exhibit non-masculine behavior and less likely to “play with trucks and other male-typical toys or to play fight.”

PHTHALATES IN FACE MASKS AND PPE

A 2020 study by chemical environmental engineering researcher Tadele Assefa Aragaw titled “Surgical face masks as a potential source for microplastic pollution in the COVID-19 scenario” lists several of the harmful side effects of Covid mask pollution in great detail.

having males infertile is one way of reducing the population to

    500,000,000 million
