This post was inspired by a tweet from an account called Fighting on Film, a war/historical film podcast. They asked what war films you fell in love with.
For me the list looks something like this, in no particular order:
- The Bridges at Toko-ri. William Holden made this film for me.
- The Green Berets. Yah, I know it’s a bit cheesy, and is really two separate films, but I love it anyway.
- T-34. I doubt if anyone knows this film, it is fairly new and from Belarus. It is also free on YouTube at the moment, I’ll drop a link in the comments.
- A Bridge Too Far. Star studded cast, excellent acting, Shot on location in the Netherlands. My only issue with the film is the fact they gave Montgomery a pass for the failure of Market-Garden.
- Breaker Morant. The story of an Aussie fighting for the British during the 2nd Boer War in South Africa. So many great quotes from that Film.
- Full Metal Jacket. Just a good film, good story, good acting, compelling characters.
So, what war movies do you love? Let us know in the comments. Bonus points for clips and trivia . . .
