Limerick Prison

The Irish have fallen far from the days of the H block at Long Kesh and the hunger strikes.

This story comes from Limerick prison.

Seems an autoparts prisoner called Barbie Kardashian, who was born a male named Gabrielle Alejandro Gentile and has not had transition surgery, was being housed with female prisoners.

Kardashian, and yes, I’m laughing every time I type that, was sentenced to 4 and a half years for threatening to rape, torture and murder her his mother. He also remains under a garda (Irish national police) investigation over allegations that he threatened to rape female prison officers.

From The Irish Mirror:

Dangerous inmate Barbie Kardashian has been transferred to a male prison – but remains under a restricted regime for the safety of others, we can reveal.

Sources say that Kardashian, who identifies as a trans woman after she secured a gender recognition certificate, has been moved into Limerick Prison’s D block in recent days in the men’s side of the jail.

The lag had been housed in an isolation unit of the now-old female part of the prison, which has since closed after the opening of a brand new facility there recently.

. . .

She had a name change by deed poll and received a Gender Recognition Certificate from the State.

However, her case came to national attention and was the centre of debate over whether or not she should be housed in a female prison.

Earlier this year, the Prison Officers’ Association President Tony Power urged bosses to bring forward a policy on transgender prisoners as soon as possible.

He said: “It is becoming a more common thing where we have transgender people coming into prison and it is our priority to keep our members safe.

“We are asking the prison service to come up with a policy on transgender prisoners.”

According to Seirbhís Phríosúin na hÉireann, the Irish Prison Service, Limerick prison is a medium security facility and has a capacity of 210 males and 22 females. It is one of 10 traditional ‘closed’ prisons in Ireland.

Why they thought it was a good idea to house this nutbag with actual female prisoners is beyond me. Given the nature of the charges against her, a wood chipper would be more apt. At the very least, house him with other rapists. I would think that might cure any gender issues he has.
