President-elect Trump has announced a few more members of his upcoming administration. Tulsi Gabbard has been named as DNI and Matt Gaetz as AG.
Gabbard, a Democrat, has been critical of the intelligence community for a while. She has also credibly been accused of being an Assad apologist. Other than the Assad thing, I think she’s a decent, if uninspired, choice for DNI. She should do a serviceable job as DNI. Frankly the position should be eliminated altogether, as it’s wholly redundant.
Gaetz on the other hand, is completely inexplicable for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, I really doubt he could get confirmed in the first place. He has way too much baggage and there are quite a few senators who have stated their dislike of him and his ways publicly. Secondarily, there is absolutely nothing in his professional record that points to him having anything like the ability to be that Attorney General of the United States. While he has a law degree, he practiced law for less than three years before going into politics in Florida.
I saw someone on Twitter posit (as an aside, for some reason tweets are not embedding on the site at this time, so I cannot post the tweet in question) that Trump is appointing people who have been attacked or harassed by the government, and that was why he named Gaetz. This is clearly not true. While a couple of his appointments have been, most have not. I truly think Gaetz is a bad choice and the biggest ‘L’ from Trump so far this time around.
