That was the ‘sentence’ acting judge Juan Marchan imposed on President-elect Trump today. The sentence comes after a show trial in Marchan’s Manhattan court room on business records charges. Those on the left can finally call Trump a convicted felon.
The charges needed a novel interpretation of an obscure New York law that upgrades misdemeanors to felonies and tolls the statute of limitations. The underlying charge in this case is a federal election finance law. You will note that the feds did not charge Trump or his campaign with that.
There are also issues with the judge himself. In the state of New York, judges are required to recuse themselves if there is a 6th degree relation to a party involved with or who would benefit from the case. Marchan’s daughter worked for the Kamala Harris campaign and was the head of a democrat fundraising operation that was raising funds based on the case her father was overseeing.
The sentencing, while not the dramatic event the Dems were hoping for, ends the first phase of this trial. Now Trump can move forward on an appeal. It seems the grounds for appeal are fertile in this case.
