Random News And Notes

We’re going to start off with an obscure bit of news out of the Hague. Karim Khan, a judge/prosecutor for the International Criminal Court, has been suspended from his position. Khan has been accused of raping a subordinate and sexually harassing/assaulting others. Why am I bringing you this news item? Simple, Khan was the one that issued the arrest warrants for Bibi Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant, the former Israeli defense chief.

I will admit to not really following any of this all that closely. The main reason is that Israel, like the US, is not a signatory to the Rome Statute. That statute established the ICC and lays out the very limited and specific jurisdiction of the court. As a non-signatory, israel is outside of the court’s reach. More, Israel has a functioning court and justice system which is another bar to the ICC.

There seems to have been a consensus among the analysts I follow and read that Khan bringing the charges he did when he did was to deflect from his own scandal. I should point out that Khan’s brother Imran was forced to resign from his position as an member of the British Parliament and served a jail term for similar reasons.

On to something a bit closer to home. It seems Lurch err James Comey stepped in it. He made a post or his Insta that had everyone up in arms.

While I agree with Robby above that there is zero chance that Comey didn’t know what ’86’ means in that context, I’m not so sure he should be arrested, much less prosecuted. I am – and by extension this site is – a free speech absolutist. There is enough ambiguity in the image to make any prosecution of Comey problematic to me. What’s more, there is a Supreme Court case from 1968, Brandenburg v Ohio, that found hyperbolic speech like this protected under the 1st Amendment. There are a few limitations, and it doesn’t seem to me that this post trigger any of them. I welcome your disagreements with this one, as I do with any other topic. Just be prepared to defend your position vigorously.

It seems that at least part of the Swamp is being drained. Kash Patel just announced the FBI was moving out of the Hoover building. At least 1500 or the FBI employees located in DC are being sent to field offices outside the beltway. We’ll see how this shakes out.

President Trump is a grandpa. Well, he was one ten times before, but this is daughter Tiffany’s first child.

We wish the best for mom and child.

New Jersey rep LaMonica McIver is reportedly going to be charged with assault on a federal officer in the coming days.

McIver was involved in the scrum outside a Newark New Jersey ICE detention facility that saw Newark mayor Ras Baraka arrested. Baraka was charged with trespass after warning, a misdemeanor.

I think this case and that of Milwaukee county judge Hannah Dugan are going to be a very rude wake-up for the left. And it isn’t a day too soon if you ask me.

In a sad note, I just found out actor and Army vet Joe Don Baker has died.

Baker was probably best known for his role as Buford Pusser in 1973’s Walking Tall. He appeared in more than 80 movies and TV shows. Joe Don Baker was 89. Resquiecat in pace
