Random News and Notes 17 March

Today is Saint Patrick’s day. Patrick – Padraig in Irish – came from a fairly well to do Romano-British family that lived somewhere on the west coast of England. He was taken as a slave by Irish raiders when he was 16. He escaped 6 years later and went to seminary to become a priest. He returned to Ireland to convert the Druidic Irish to Christianity.

He was one of several priests who engaged the native Irish in attempts to get them to convert to Christianity. He is also one of the 3 patron saints of Ireland. St Columba and St Brigid being the others.

While Paddy’s day – and it is Paddy not patty – is known as a raucous celebration here in the US, it is a more somber day in Ireland.

Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig oraibh! Slainté! *

* Blessings on the feast of Patrick everyone! Cheers! (pronounced ban-ochtee na fayla paw-rig or-iv Slawn-cha)

There was a group of retards in Seattle that thought they could force Starbucks – a multi-billion dollar corporation – to bend the knee to their union demands. They went out on strike from November 13, 2025, to February 16, 2026. When they finally returned to work, the company announced it was closing that location.

The ‘Starbucks on the Ave’ at 4147 University Way NE closes April 5. The workers involved must reapply at other locations at potentially entry-level wages and are not guaranteed transfers.

In a related story, the company is leasing enough new office space in Tennessee for 2000 employees. and leasing out some 47k square feet of their Seattle HQ.

A meteor entered the atmosphere and created a sonic boom over parts of Ohio and Pennsylvania this morning. The blast, felt over a 20- to 30-mile radius in areas like Maple Heights, Shaker Heights, and Cleveland Heights, prompted 50 to 60 reports of an earthquake-like explosion. The National Weather Service traced it to a bright meteor flash captured at 9:01 a.m. EST, while the American Meteor Society noted a matching -11 magnitude fireball from Zanesville lasting 3.5 seconds.

No damage has been reported.

Epic Fury News

Head of the National Counter-terrorism Center, Joe Kent, has resigned. He claims it is because of the Iran war.

Look, I’m all for standing on principle. I get that Kent is an anti-interventionist, but a lot of his ideas are just whacky. If there are other people in senior positions who hold similar views about the GWOT being started by the Israelis- who specifically did not want the US to go into Iraq – they need to go as well. There seems to be some backstory about this resignation that hasn’t fully been exposed. If it warrants a closer look at a later date, you can be assured I’ll cover it in this space.

In remarks he made today, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel has “eliminated Ali Larijani. Ali Larijani is the boss of the Revolutionary Guards, that group of gangsters that effectively runs Iran.” The strike that took out Larijani also took out Gholamreza Soleimani, head of the Basij paramilitary group.

There aren’t many of the Iranian senior leadership still breathing. I wouldn’t want to be in their shoes.
