On this date in 1765, Britain enacted the Quartering Act, required colonists to provide temporary housing to British soldiers.

This led the Third Amendment of the Constitution which prohibits the quartering of soldiers in private homes without the owner’s consent during peacetime. It also requires that any such quartering during wartime must be prescribed by law.
