All The Things
I teased this post the other day. It turns out that I had done at least part of it back in December. You’ll find some overlap between this one and that one.
Below you will find links to all of my previous posts about preparedness, self defense, shooting, hunting and possibly some fishing.
I recently had to change our comment policy – retards were being retarded in old posts – and now comment threads on posts more than a couple of weeks old are closed. If you feel the need to comment on one of the articles collected below, please do so here.
We start with the very first prepper related post I ever did here. Forgive the title, I wrote this one with the intention of continuing with the series. It was early days here at MVAP and some stuff stuck, some didn’t. Prepper’s Corner didn’t.
This one takes a look at the guns you should have if SHTF. I might add a rimfire, pistol or rifle, to the arsenal I discussed in the article, if only for a way to quietly pot some small game.
Are you ready?
Baby it’s cold outside
This one takes a look at what would happen in a major catastrophe
This is the water purification article teased in the one above.
This one talks about the who, how and why of building a team for SHTF
This one takes a 1000 foot look at how to prepare for hunting season. Keep in mind as you read some of the older hunting and shooting related articles that ammo and guns were sparse for a while due to COVID.
I tried to give y’all a general direction if you were looking for a new hunting rifle with this one.
This one from the end of March 2021 takes a look at spring trout fishing and includes a lament about changes in the trout fishery in New York.
I wrote about my favorite freshwater fish species in May of 2021. The walleye season opens here 1 May, and weather permitting, your editor will be out on the lake looking to creel a few of these tasty fishes.
I wrote a bit about getting started in hand loading your own ammo a bit ago. I will add this disclaimer (despite having it in the piece several times) if you are going to handload, use the proper recipe/load data for the round you are making. Doing otherwise can be deadly
I took a shot (pun intended) at writing about less expensive firearms here.
I broke down which bullet type to use for the various use cases in this one. I got the expansion of non-lead projectiles wrong, and I’m glad to say so.
This one is one of my better written pieces about shooting. I discuss, analyze and proclaim a winner in the carry caliber wars.
Gun Reviews
Over the years I have written a number of gun reviews -both pistol and long gun – you’ll find them all below. I have one caveat to all of these, most were written a while ago, and the pricing and availability may not be what they were.
We’ll start with the first I wrote for MVAP; the Springfield Hellcat. Since writing this review, I’ve put even more rounds through a hellcat and my opinion stands.
The next review I did was for the Canik TP9SF. Since doing the review I picked up a TP9 SFx and shoot it fairly regularly.
Here’s another one that I ended up buying. I made myself a set of grips for it though.
A while back I switched my daily carry gun from a Colt’s Commander to a Glock 43x. Here is why. I still carry the 43x.
The most recent pistol review I did was on the Sig Sauer P320 XTen.
In the first rifle review I did I wrote about the then-new Sig Cross. It is an interesting platform and now comes in even more calibers.
The Bergara B-14 Ridge is my favorite Remington 700 pattern rifle.
The Savage Axis II is the best rifle in it’s price range I have ever shot.
I liked the Wildcat enough that I now own a couple of them. They are deadly in the squirrel woods.
The last rifle review I did was the Stevens 334.
