Intended as a way to alleviate the pain of the Great Depression, the Works Progress Administration (WPA) was created by executive order on this date in 1935. FDR and the commies around him thought that the only way to end the depression was through government actions. He was wrong. The WPA and most of the rest of his economic programs only extended the pain.
Two years later, on this date in 1937, the Zeppelin Hindenburg burst into flames while mooring at Lakehurst New Jersey.

On May 3, 1937, the Hindenburg left Frankfurt, Germany, for a journey across the Atlantic to the Lakehurst Naval Air Station. Stretching 804 feet from stern to bow, it carried 36 passengers and a crew of 61. While attempting to moor at Lakehurst, the airship suddenly burst into flames, probably after a spark ignited its hydrogen core. Rapidly falling 200 feet to the ground, the hull of the airship was incinerated within seconds. Thirteen passengers, 22 crewmen and one civilian member of the ground crew lost their lives, and most of the survivors suffered substantial injuries.
On this date in 1942 General Johnathan Wainwright surrenders all U.S. troops under his command in the Philippines to the Japanese. Wainwright had little choice but surrender given the odds against him and the poor physical condition of his troops. He surrendered at midnight. All 11,500 surviving Allied troops were evacuated to a prison stockade in Manila.
Wainwright would be awarded the Medal of Honor after his release from Japanese captivity in 1945.
Paula Jones, a former Arkansas state clerk, files suit against President Bill Clinton in the federal court in Little Rock, Arkansas, on this day in 1994, asking for $700,000 in damages. Jones claimed that Clinton, while governor of Arkansas, sexually harassed her and then defamed her after she went public with her accusations.
The Paula Jones case was one of four major scandals that coalesced to threaten Clinton’s second term. While working on the Paula Jones investigation, independent prosecutor Kenneth Starr uncovered Clinton’s alleged affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky. Starr was also pursuing ongoing investigations into allegedly illegal real-estate deals made by the Clintons (known as the Whitewater scandal) and a dispute concerning allegations of cronyism in the firing of workers at the White House travel agency.
We start today’s news with a story that touches on two states. Hedge fund guy Ken Griffin announced that his Citadel Group would be scaling back operations in NYC and moving them to Miami. Griffin is the owner of the co-op that commie NYC mayor Mamdani called out when he announced his planned pied-a-terre tax on non-primary residences in the city.
What these retard commies (but I repeat myself) don’t realize is that money – particularly big money – is mobile. Griffin isn’t the only one leaving the Big Apple, tens of billions of dollars of wealth have vacated the 5 boroughs since Mamdani was elected. Those people paid taxes and propped up other businesses.
In case you didn’t know or weren’t sure, climate activists are retards. And I don’t mean just the actual, diagnosed retard Prince Valiant err Greta Thunberg (more on her in a bit), they are all retards. Take this example from Venice:

I read a report from what I consider a reliable source that said during the last retard cruise in the Med where they tried to get into Gaza, Greta was passed around like a playing card. I blame her parents. As I noted above, she is an actual retard and should be protected from this kind of thing, not paraded around as some sort of symbol. Also, ewww.
President Trump shared images of a proposed ‘National Immigration and Customs Enforcement’ logo and uniform patch on May 5, building on President Trump’s endorsement of adding ‘National’ to ICE’s name last month. DHS accounts have called agents ‘NICE officers’ in posts about arresting murderers, sex offenders, and gang members.
The Troll in Chief is at it again. I won ‘t bore you with the reaction from the usual suspects. It is as unhinged as you might expect.
Here’s another retard story but this time out of my home state. A group of PETA activists cemented themselves to the driveway of the PepsiCo global HQ in Purchase NY. The group were protesting alleged cruelty to bulls hauling sugarcane carts in India, where suppliers reportedly beat and whip the animals in scorching heat, violating PepsiCo’s animal welfare policy.
There have been several arrests and they have all been removed. It is unclear if the arrestees will face charges at this point.
