On this date:

• 1585 – A group of 108 English colonists, led by Sir Richard Grenville, reaches Roanoke Island, North Carolina. Plagued by supply shortages and conflicts with local Indigenous tribes, they abandoned the settlement and returned to England a year later.
• 1642 – A smaller force of Royalists defeated the Parliamentarian Army at Roundway Down. The rout gave the King control of the West of England.
• 1878 – Congress, under the Articles of Confederation, enacts the Northwest Ordinance, establishing rules for governing the Northwest Territory, for admitting new states to the Union and limiting the expansion of slavery.
• 1862 – General Nathan Bedford Forrest defeats a Union force at Murfreesboro Tennessee.
• 1863 – The first in a series of draft riots break out in New York City. A mob burned the draft office, triggering nearly five days of violence. At first, the targets included local newspapers, wealthy homes, well-dressed men, and police officers, but the crowd’s attention soon turned to African Americans.
• 1866 – The Great Eastern begins a two week voyage to lay the first intercontinental telegraph lines.
• 1949 – Pope Pius XII excommunicates all Communist Catholics.
• 1954 – Great Britain, the Soviet Union, the People’s Republic of China and France reach an accord on Indochina, dividing Vietnam into two countries, North and South, along the 17th parallel.
• 1955 – Nightclub owner Ruth Ellis is executed by hanging for the crime of murdering her boyfriend David Blakely. Ellis was the last woman in Great Britain to be put to death.

We start today’s news on a sad note. Actor Sam Neill has died. You probably remember him as Dr Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park franchise, but he will always be captain Vasili Borodin to me.

Neill had been battling a rare form of blood cancer, but according to the statement released by his family, he was cancer free at the time of his death.

I am pretty sure we all agree that the DSA are a bunch of retards. Well, if you were at all unsure, there is now photographic evidence. At a recent DSA confab in Denver one of the attendees took this pic:

More than half of the ‘people’ are wearing masks. Mask wearing is now some sort of retard status symbol now among the left.

There is news out of Biddeford Maine about a possible ICE involved shooting. It is being reported that the person who was shot was attempting to run over an ICE agent with their vehicle.

CENTCOM just released some interesting footage. The video shows US one-way USV (unmanned surface vessel) attack drones on Iranian targets.

. . . marking the first time American forces have employed sea drones in combat operations. Last night’s strikes degraded Iran’s ability to continue attacking commercial shipping.

While this may seem to be a quantum leap in naval tactics, it is not. The Ukraine – a country without a Navy – has managed to sink most of the Russian Black Sea fleet with their USV tech. I do have to admit that it is a big step for the hidebound US admiralty.

Just in case you don’t believe me about the Ukrainians and USVs, they just completed the first-ever fully autonomous amphibious landing. They used a USV to land a machine gun armed UGV (unmanned ground vehicle) on the Kinburn Spit in Crimea.
