Random News and Notes 6 July
On this date in 1885, Louis Pasteur administered the first successful rabies vaccination. . He first tested the vaccine on a human on July 6, 1885, saving a nine-year-old boy named Joseph Meister who had been severely mauled by a rabid dog.
He expanded on early immunology work by successfully creating vaccines for devastating conditions, including fowl cholera and anthrax. He also discovered that heating liquids like milk, wine, and beer to specific temperatures kills harmful bacteria and prevents spoilage. This process that bears his name is still used globally today.
On this date in 1933 the first MLB All Star game is held at Comiskey Park in Chicago. Ballots were printed in 55 newspapers across the country, and fans cast several hundred thousand votes for their favorite players, with Babe Ruth drawing 100,000. Along with the Bambino, fans elected the likes of Lefty Grove, Jimmy Foxx, Lou Gehrig, Al Simmons and Joe Cronin to the roster. On game day, 47,595 fans packed into Comiskey Park, where some of baseball’s most historic moments had taken place. This would be another.
The game, which ended in a 4-2 victory by the American League, did not disappoint, thrilling the crowd with its star-studded roster, built-in drama and unprecedented matchups. I have to preface this one by saying I do not know if the video here is real. Anyway I told you about the flowers in the Patriot Front showing up in DC over the weekend. This image of them riding the Metro is making the rounds:

Well, our heroine there is not who the media want to portray her as. Video has come out purporting to show her just before the glowies got on.
Again, I do not know if the video is real. What I do know is that she has at least one prior conviction for indecent exposure on the Metro.

This next one is not going to interest everyone.
There are Russian troops in the form of a re-branded Wagner Group. The so-called African Corps are fighting in the Malian civil war on the side of the Malian government. I won’t go into the who’s and what’s of the conflict, suffice to say there is the Malian government and the Russians on one side and a bunch of Tuaregs and related tribals on the other. It also seems the Toerags are winning.
Within the past few days the rebels have shot down a russian Mi24 Hind helicopter and successfully ambushed a relief convoy.
The main rebel target was the city of Anefis, which has strategic importance as virtually the last stronghold for the Malian army and the Russian Defense Ministry’s African Corps in the Kidal region following the rebels’ offensive in April.
The Tuaregs and their allies want for self-determination or the creation of an independent Azawad state on Malian territory. Mali has been ruled by military junta since a 2021 Russian backed coup.
This one amuses me.
A cruise ship filled to the brim with homos was denied a port call in Turkey. The Virgin Cruises Scarlet Lady was supposed to stop at the port town of Kuşadası and Istanbul before the Turkish authorities said nope. The official reason given was that the groups that chartered the ship of queers were “known for behaviors incompatible with the fabric of our society and our moral values.”
I don’t know what they expected. Recep Tayyip Erdogan is an islamist. His ruling AK party are islamist. Islamists still Chuck out homos off 10 story buildings. Openly.
This stuff is why I don’t get the queers for Palestine crowd. They don’t seem to understand that the Islamists they support would rape them and then pitch them into the sweet by-and-by.
