Coast Guard

Coast Guard and partner agencies air and surface units search the Mona Passage for survivors of a capsized vessel during a four-day mass rescue operation on Sept. 28, 2026. Crews rescued 49 migrants and recovered three deceased. The multiagency search was suspended the evening of Oct. 1, 2026, after 78 hours of continuous searching across 2,000 square nautical miles—an area larger than half of Puerto Rico.
