We start the news in Oregon. There was a tragic school shooting in Bend yesterday. An adult and three children ages 5, 8 and 11 were killed at Silver Rail Elementary School. A passerby noticed the shooter and pursued them into the school, shooting and killing them before more people could be killed. Two other victims, a 7-year-old and a 54-year-old teacher were taken to a hospital with injuries.
According to what I can gather, the shooter – only identified as a 16 year old ‘male’ at this time – was armed with a shotgun and shot his way into the school and began shooting at teachers and students. The good Samaritan saw this and engaged the shooter with his licenced CCW, killing him. There are unconfirmed iententies floating around for each of them, but as a rule, I do not publish the names of school shooters, and the good Samaritan ID is a bit weak, and I do not want to put the wrong guy out there.
It’s been nearly 18 hours and there has been not a peep about the name of the shooter, so I am going to invoke Coulter’s law. Needless to say, when I find out, you’ll find out.
From the MVAP sports desk, the NL side of the Fall Classic is set. The Milwaukee Brewers just swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS. They made history in doing so. For the first time in MLB history, a team that had been swept in the previous season’s playoff came back and swept the same opponent.
The Brew Crew will face either Cleveland or Tampa in the World Series. Currently, The Indians are up 2-1 over the Rays. They play tonight at 8 in Cleveland. If you’re asking me, and I’ve called all the playoff series so far, it’s going to be the Indians (I refuse to call them the Guardians, that name is ghey and retarded) in 6 games.
From the MVAP weather desk, there are 20 foot waves forecast for Lake Michigan over the next 24 hours. A cold front is driving northwest winds gusting over 40 knots, fueling 15-to-20-foot waves across southern and central Lake Michigan, with nearshore spots like Chicago and Milwaukee seeing 10-to-14-foot breakers. The National Weather Service has gale warnings through late Friday night, warning of risks to boats and dangerous coastal currents.
Storm chasers are out capturing the spectacle, but officials urge everyone to stay safe and off the water.
Hopefully we have some video of the waves for tomorrow.
