Project Farm: Best Angle Grinder
In this week’s episode of Project Farm, Todd tests cordless angle grinders. He tests grinders from knockoff Makita, Makita, Milwaukee, Dewalt, Ryobi, Bosch, Craftsman, Ridgid, Metabo and Workpro. Grinder performance compared cutting through ½ inch rebar with 5 pounds of pressure. Tool power/torque compared using a grinding disc with incremental increases in pressure up to 20 pounds.

Project Farm: Laser Tape Measures
This week’s Project Farm compares laser tape measures. Tapes from General Tools, Toolman, Meterk, Zekbean, Mileseey, TickTockTools, BeiXun, eTape, Lexivon, Hyggein, DTAPE, Prexiso, and Koiss are tested. A regular Stanley Fatmax tape measure was used to compare the physical tape measure features against the laser tape measures. Most of the brands have both a physical tape measure and a laser. Laser testing includes: outdoor accuracy, ease of reading digital display in bright, outdoor conditions, durability when exposed to vibration, dust and water. Laser testing also included indoor accuracy testing. Physical tape measure tested for reach or “standout”, abrasion resistance, accuracy, and retraction speed after exposure to dust.

Project Farm: Tap and Die Sets
This week on Project Farm, Todd tests tap and die sets. He tests sets from Craftsman, GearWrench, Draper, Bosch, Tekton, Century, Irwin, Vermont American & Pittsburgh (Harbor Freight). Tap & Die sets are tested for sharpness to cut threads in aluminum, medium-hardness steel, and spring steel. After creating threads, each of the threads are compared for fit and quality.

Project Farm: Best Knife Brand
This week on Project Farm, Todd Osgood tests 15 brands of Pocket Knives. Knives from Benchmade, Zero Tolerance, Spyderco Para 3, Cold Steel, Kershaw Link, Buck, Spyderco Tenacious, Civivi, SOG, CRKT Endorser, CJRB, Ontario, KA-BAR, Opinel and Smith & Wesson are compared for initial sharpness, blade lock release pressure, corrosion resistance, and blade tip durability. Knives were then sharpened using the same sharpening system, then compared for blade edge durability.

Project Farm: Best CLP
In this weeks Project Farm, Todd tests multipurpose gun oils/cleaners from Clenzoil, Break Free CLP, Slip 2000, Frog Lube, Hoppe’s, Extreme Force, Hoppe’s 9 Kit, Ballistol and Fluid Film. The testing approach took into consideration testing standards outlined in the Mil PRF 63460F. All of the products are tested for: cleaning highly carbonized metal after 2 minutes of exposure to CLP and a 5-second cleaning process,the lubricating ability of CLPs tested using a lubricity tester, CLPs tested for the ability to resist rust, including after protected metal is exposed to heat. They are also tested for cold temperature performance at -40F.
