With the start of a new year, I decided to bring back this regular column where I present a variety of news with my personal commentary appended. Expect to see it 4-5 times a week.

Let’s start in DC, where there is a report saying the House homeland security committee is formally moving ahead with impeachment proceedings against DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. The first hearing is supposed to take place on Jan. 10, with a possible second hearing to be held the following week.

Ok, as i said to someone in a recent conversation, I’m tired of the virtue signalling on the right. It’s gotten as bad as it is on the left. This is nothing more than theater, as it would be a cold day in hell before the Chuck Shumer led Senate would vote to impeach. As Chip Roy said, it’s time to use the power of the purse to force the President to secure the border.

Also, miss me with the ‘Chip Roy is a RINO’ nonsense. He’s a rock ribbed conservative and his voting record and policy positions bear that out.

Staying in the District, Senator Bob Menendez, D-NJ, just got hit with a superseding indictment in his federal corruption trial. The new charges are related to him taking bribes from Qatar. He was previously indicted on bribery charges related to Egypt. Authorities who searched Menendez’s home last year said they found more than $100,000 worth of gold bars and over $480,000 in cash – much of it hidden in closets, clothing and a safe.

Am I surprised by this? Sadly no. What I am surprised by is the fact that Menendez still sits on the Senate Intel committee.

On the fourth anniversary of his death a memorial for the Ginsu’ed former head of the Iranian Revolution, Qassem Solemani, was rocked by two large explosions. The blasts killed more than 100 and injured at least 150 more. You’ll remember that Solemani was hit by a Hellfire R9X, the missile with fricken swords, after then President Trump authorized the strike. The bombs went off alongside the route to Kernan Martyrs cemetery in that southern Iranian city during the memorial service.

Of course the Ayatollahs are going to try to blame either Israel or the US. I doubt it was a US operation just because. I’m also reticent to lay this at the Israelis feet. Could they have done this? Quite easily, but it doesn’t fit how they generally operate. The fact is, it is far more likely that some internal dissidents are behind it.

In a related note, the IDF managed to off Saleh al Arouri, a senior Hamas leader known to have connections to Iran, with an airstrike in Lebanon. The US had a $5 million bounty on his head, and had been a specially designated terrorist since 2015. The strike also killed a number of his aides. Israel is already bracing for retaliation from Hezbollah.

This is what I meant in the piece about the Solemani memorial explosions. The strike on al Arouri is a classic Israeli precision strike. The roadside bombs in Iran just seem to indiscriminate to me. I also think this particular strike, deep in Lebanon, puts a lot of people on notice.

The list of names associated with Pedo Jeffrey Epstein is set to be released. According to reports, the majority of the names are already known, and those that aren’t are victims. The list was part of a civil suit brought by Virginia Roberts Giuffre, one of Epstein and Ghislane Maxwells victims.

    Epstein didn’t kill himself. . .

Seriously tho, don’t expect any major revelations from this release. We already know most of the names of those involved in the sex trafficking.

Dem Senators to Bob Menendez: It’s Time to Say Adios to Your Political Career

Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) vows to fight to the bitter end regarding the recent corruption charges filed against him and his wife. The New Jersey Democrat has been accused of accepting bribes to benefit the Arab Republic of Egypt. The form of payment appears to be mountains of cash, around $480,000, found all over his residence by federal agents—some of which were stuffed in clothing articles. Around $100,000 of gold bars were also discovered.

Menendez made his intention to run for another term known yesterday, adding that he’s confident that he will be exonerated in this indictment. Unlike his recent legal bout with the Justice Department under the Obama administration, the cash and gold bars appear too much for many Democrats. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) called on Menendez to resign, blowing up the senator’s initial counternarrative that these charges were racially motivated

New Jersey Democrats are reportedly freaking out, with Menendez’s own colleagues calling on him to say ‘adios’ to his tenure as a sitting US Senator. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) said he should step down. Even John Fetterman, who doesn’t know where he is 80 percent of the time, said it was time to go (via Axios):

Vermont Sen. Peter Welch on Monday became the third Democratic senator to call for Sen. Bob Menendez’s (D-N.J.) resignation following his federal indictment on bribery charges.

Why it matters: Menendez has defied growing calls to resign from lawmakers, including a number of House Democrats and leading New Jersey Democrats.

State of play: Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) on Saturday called for the embattled New Jersey lawmaker to step down.

Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) said in a statement earlier Monday that Menendez “has broken the public trust and should resign from the U.S. Senate.”

    […]

… Nearly half of the Democrats in New Jersey’s congressional delegation and several leading New Jersey Democrats, including New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, have all called for Menendez to resign.

Gold bar Bob is expected to be arraigned in federal court in Manhattan on Wednesday.
