    Friday Fun

Once Again, the Week is ending, time for some tomfoolery.

It’s hard to believe this is an official government agency account sometimes. . .

This week’s Pearls strip. For the record, your Editor spends far, far too much time doomscrolling Twitter/X, he feels this strip on a very deep level. . .

    This week’s Political commentary:

    MEMES!!!

Really, do not pet the fart squirrels. Or the danger kitties. . .

For this week’s photos I’m doing something a bit different for the Army photos. There were two big events in the Army this week. First, a 100 year old WWII Vet got his Green Beret. Ellsworth “Al” Johnson was a member of the OSS during WWI, and was presented with his Beret and Tab as a ceremony on 1 September. Second, Captain Larry Taylor was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions in Vietnam. Taylor used his AH-1 Cobra gunship to extract a 4 man LRRP team from a hamlet near Ap Go Cong, Republic of Vietnam.

ADRIATIC SEA (Sept. 6, 2023) Lt. Bryan Goodman, left, from Wellington, Florida, and Chief Warrant Officer 3 William Sum, from Panorama City, California, both assigned to the air department of the world’s largest aircraft carrier, USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), signal to launch an E-2D Hawkeye attached to the “Bear Aces” of Airborne Command and Control Squadron (VAW) 124 during flight operations in the Adriatic Sea, Sept. 6, 2023. VAW-124 is deployed aboard CVN 78 as part of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 8. Gerald R. Ford is the U.S. Navy’s newest and most advanced aircraft carrier, representing a generational leap in the U.S. Navy’s capacity to project power on a global scale. The Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group is on a scheduled deployment in the U.S. Naval Forces Europe area of operations, employed by U.S. Sixth Fleet to defend U.S., allied, and partner interests.(U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Jackson Adkins)

    This week’s Pearls strip:

    A few Political ‘toons:

For those unaware of the context of the last one, a Pauite tribal cop in Nevada went all GTA on some climate protesters earlier this week. They blocked a highway on Tribal lands that was packed with vehicles trying to get to this year’s Burning Man festival. They found out at a pretty high level.

    Friday Fun

Cheers to the Weekend! It’s Friday again and time for some faffery and shenanigans.

Kicking off this weeks fun, as has become tradition, with a post from my fave account on Twitter/X, the Oklahoma DWC:

While we’re (tangentially) on the subject of wildlife, there’s a story out of Germany that I found amusing. It seems that the raccoons there have taken to stealing beer. ‘Coons aren’t native to Germany, or the rest of Europe for that matter, having been introduced in the mid 1930’s. Called waschbären (washing bears) by the locals, the masked nuisances have raided their kitchens, causing thousands of dollars worth of damage in the process, including killing household pets and stealing any beer they can find. On less frustrating occasions, the raccoons have been seen at city parks, knocking over discarded beer bottles so they could drink whatever booze was left inside.

    Here’s some Pearls Before Swine:

    And now some memes:

    YAY! It’s FRIDAY!

That means it’s time for another edition of Friday Fun here at MilVets and Patriots.

As has become tradition, we’re kicking off this week’s episode with a tweet, or X or whatever it’s called this week, from my personal fave account the OKDWC.

    https://twitter.com/OKWildlifeDept/status/1687126135375564800?s=20

Back when newspapers were a thing, I used to read the comics every day. I really liked Pearls Before Swine. And it turns out the author/artist Stephan Pastis has a Twitter account and posts a strip almost every day. Here’s today’s: (you might have to click to see the full strip)

I happen to agree with that sentiment. So here’s a few pics of the bestest bois:

    Friday Fun

It’s another Friday, and time for another fun post.

Let’s start out with a little trivia for you. Etymologically speaking we are celebrating Frigg’s day today. Frigga, also spelled Frila, was the Norse/Germanic goddess of fertility and Odin’s wife. Friday isn’t the only day name derived from the Scandinavian gods. Tuesday (Tyr, god of War and Justice), Wednesday (Odin or Woden if you were from Northern Germany), and Thursday (Thor, god of Thunder and War) are all based in the Norse Pantheon.

Here’s this week’s gem from the Oklahoma DWC:

    https://twitter.com/OKWildlifeDept/status/1684607719926538240?s=20

    There’s a passage I got memorized. Ezekiel 25:17.

“The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.”

I been sayin’ that shit for years. And if you ever heard it, it meant your ass. I never really questioned what it meant. I thought it was just a coldblooded thing to say to a motherfucker ‘fore you popped a cap in his ass. But I saw some shit this mornin’ made me think twice. Now I’m thinkin’, it could mean you’re the evil man. And I’m the righteous man. And Mr. .45 here, he’s the shepherd protecting my righteous ass in the valley of darkness. Or is could by you’re the righteous man and I’m the shepherd and it’s the world that’s evil and selfish. I’d like that. But that shit ain’t the truth. The truth is you’re the weak. And I’m the tyranny of evil men. But I’m tryin’. I’m tryin’ real hard to be a shepherd.

I wouldn’t trade it for the world.” Over the last three years Phelan has been the handler for two military working dogs.
