    Dastardly Deeds

That is the apparent cause of action Rep. Al Green (D-TX) cites in his articles of Impeachment. Green filed the articles against Trump this morning. He also gave a floor speech. Watch:

This isn’t the first time Green has filed articles of impeachment against Trump. He did it several times during Trumps last term as President.

While Green, who represents the southwestern portion of Houston, isn’t the dumbest rep on the Dem side, he’s damned close.

Having read the US Constitution from the Preamble to the closing clause, I can assure you that dastardly deeds appear nowhere in that august text. And while I cannot be 100% sure, I am reasonably confident that those two words do not appear together in any part of the US criminal code.

I have to wonder if dastardly deeds rise to the High Crimes and Misdemeanors requirement for impeachment. Not that this is going anywhere. At least not without a couple of Vichy Republicans helping out that is.

The phrase does bring to mind a song. That song was the inspiration behind the prompt that generated the featured image for this post; Trump dressed like Angus Young playing a guitar.

With the start of a new year, I decided to bring back this regular column where I present a variety of news with my personal commentary appended. Expect to see it 4-5 times a week.

Let’s start in DC, where there is a report saying the House homeland security committee is formally moving ahead with impeachment proceedings against DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. The first hearing is supposed to take place on Jan. 10, with a possible second hearing to be held the following week.

Ok, as i said to someone in a recent conversation, I’m tired of the virtue signalling on the right. It’s gotten as bad as it is on the left. This is nothing more than theater, as it would be a cold day in hell before the Chuck Shumer led Senate would vote to impeach. As Chip Roy said, it’s time to use the power of the purse to force the President to secure the border.

Also, miss me with the ‘Chip Roy is a RINO’ nonsense. He’s a rock ribbed conservative and his voting record and policy positions bear that out.

Staying in the District, Senator Bob Menendez, D-NJ, just got hit with a superseding indictment in his federal corruption trial. The new charges are related to him taking bribes from Qatar. He was previously indicted on bribery charges related to Egypt. Authorities who searched Menendez’s home last year said they found more than $100,000 worth of gold bars and over $480,000 in cash – much of it hidden in closets, clothing and a safe.

Am I surprised by this? Sadly no. What I am surprised by is the fact that Menendez still sits on the Senate Intel committee.

On the fourth anniversary of his death a memorial for the Ginsu’ed former head of the Iranian Revolution, Qassem Solemani, was rocked by two large explosions. The blasts killed more than 100 and injured at least 150 more. You’ll remember that Solemani was hit by a Hellfire R9X, the missile with fricken swords, after then President Trump authorized the strike. The bombs went off alongside the route to Kernan Martyrs cemetery in that southern Iranian city during the memorial service.

Of course the Ayatollahs are going to try to blame either Israel or the US. I doubt it was a US operation just because. I’m also reticent to lay this at the Israelis feet. Could they have done this? Quite easily, but it doesn’t fit how they generally operate. The fact is, it is far more likely that some internal dissidents are behind it.

In a related note, the IDF managed to off Saleh al Arouri, a senior Hamas leader known to have connections to Iran, with an airstrike in Lebanon. The US had a $5 million bounty on his head, and had been a specially designated terrorist since 2015. The strike also killed a number of his aides. Israel is already bracing for retaliation from Hezbollah.

This is what I meant in the piece about the Solemani memorial explosions. The strike on al Arouri is a classic Israeli precision strike. The roadside bombs in Iran just seem to indiscriminate to me. I also think this particular strike, deep in Lebanon, puts a lot of people on notice.

The list of names associated with Pedo Jeffrey Epstein is set to be released. According to reports, the majority of the names are already known, and those that aren’t are victims. The list was part of a civil suit brought by Virginia Roberts Giuffre, one of Epstein and Ghislane Maxwells victims.

    Epstein didn’t kill himself. . .

Seriously tho, don’t expect any major revelations from this release. We already know most of the names of those involved in the sex trafficking.

Hallelujah!  Ken Paxton’s defense attorney Tony Buzbee brings the fire today during his closing statement in the insufferable impeachment effort underway in Texas.

Delivering the non-pretending thunder-bombs, Mr. Buzbee laid waste to the manipulative and machiavellian Bush legacy with some resounding truths.  This was awesome.

Are Republicans getting closer to impeaching President Joe Biden? There has been much speculating on the right about such an eventuality. After a barrage of politically-motivated indictments against former President Donald Trump, members of the conservative base seem to be ready for the shoe to be placed on the other foot for a change.

Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC) gave Republican voters reason to be optimistic in an op-ed published Friday. In the piece, the lawmaker noted that many of his constituents want to see Biden impeached:

I have received countless questions from South Carolina’s Third District about impeachment proceedings against Joe Biden. My constituents and all of America deserve an honest answer as to how House Republicans are working to hold the Biden administration accountable. So far, House Republicans have held 565 oversight hearings, forced 561 Biden officials to testify under oath, and issued 45 subpoenas.

With so many issues surrounding the Biden Crime Family and the abuse of government, Republicans in the House are building a case for impeachment through 4 Committees: Homeland Security, Ways & Means, Oversight & Accountability, and Judiciary.

Duncan then went through the four main issues Republicans are exploring for a potential impeachment effort. He explained how the “Homeland Security Committee is focusing on Joe Biden allowing the invasion at our southern border where over 5.5 million illegal border crossings have occurred since Biden took office.” The lawmaker emphasized that the White House “must answer why the cartel is controlling our southwest border and why fentanyl is freely flowing across our borders and causing countless deaths here in America.

He then moved on to the “two-tiered judicial system” in the IRS and Justice Department that has protected Hunter Biden from scrutiny and legal repercussions. He noted that the committee will seek to end “preferential” treatment for those who are members of the ruling class.

Duncan brought up the Biden family’s alleged shady business dealings with foreign entities. “They are following the money trail to see where it leads to and from in relation to the Biden Crime Family and their foreign connections—otherwise known as the Chinese Communist Party,” he wrote.

Last, but not least, Duncan mentioned Rep. Jim Jordan’s (R-OH) effort to expose “the weaponization of both the FBI and the DOJ” while putting “an end to Biden’s censoring of Americans.”

This all sounds well and good to folks on the right. But are Republicans actually going to follow through? The signs seem to suggest they will, eventually. These four issues, along with the Biden bribery scandal, have shown there is more than enough smoke to explore whether there is a fire. Moreover, at least some Republicans recognize that they will have to go on the offensive at some point if they want a chance to avoid getting annihilated in the 2024 elections.

Impeaching the president will drag the country through more political drama, which makes it a risky gambit for Republicans. But Democrats have already been doing this with the politically-motivated indictments they have levied against Trump. At this point, Republicans need as much of a counter-narrative as they can get. Fortunately for them, the Biden family seems to have generously provided copious amounts of ammunition.

Republicans would not be impeaching Biden because they actually expect to remove him from office. Democrats in the Senate will almost certainly vote against conviction unless my pie-in-the-sky conspiracy theory proves to be correct. Nevertheless, this does not mean Republicans won’t have done considerable political damage depending on what their investigations and hearings turn up. If the GOP plays its cards right, it might have an effective answer to the Democrats’ effort to weaponize the justice system against Trump.

  • Kevin McCarthy Finally Goes There, Starts Talking Impeachment of Merrick Garland

Is the groundwork being laid to impeach AG Merrick Garland for allegedly making false statements to Congress? That’s the signal that House Speaker Kevin McCarthy sent on Sunday.

For the first time since assuming his leadership role, McCarthy directly pushed the idea of impeaching Garland, citing recent revelations from an IRS whistleblower.

There’s not much beating around the bush there. Obviously, House investigators have to conduct a real impeachment investigation to confirm what’s being said, but it seems as if impeachment is now firmly on the table.

As RedState reported, this is all being driven by statements that Garland made to Congress in which he asserted that David Weiss, the US Attorney for Delaware who gave Hunter Biden a sweetheart plea deal, was given full authority to file charges in any jurisdiction he wished. Gary Shapley, the IRS whistleblower in question, has directly contradicted that assertion.

After Garland essentially accused Shapley of lying, the whistleblower actually went so far as to start naming the people who were in the room when Weiss allegedly admitted he had been overridden by the DOJ on filing charges against Hunter Biden in California and Washington, D.C. That’s an escalation that has now painted Garland and Weiss into a corner. If Shapley is willing to go so far as to name everyone in the room, giving House Republicans the ability to put them under oath, there is every reason to believe he’s telling the truth.

You can expect every single person that Shapley named to be subpoenaed (if they don’t come voluntarily) and questioned about what was said in that meeting with Weiss. Garland has nibbled at the edges the entire time, hedging his bets and playing coy while Shapley has operated with no ambiguity. Given that, I know who looks more credible to me, especially given Shapley has nothing to gain by coming forward and everything to lose.

There’s an impatience among many on the right that is completely understandable. At the same time, McCarthy and others in leadership need some leeway to do this right. Nothing is accomplished by rushing through an impeachment vote based on a few paragraphs of allegations and Lauren Boebert’s fundraising page. I get that people want this to happen quickly, but a real impeachment requires a real process. That means an official investigative inquiry followed by a committee process and then a floor vote.

With that said, the first step needs to happen immediately. There’s no reason to delay the inquiry anymore. Enough evidence is already out there to move forward. Hopefully, something happens in the next week.

With all that said, will Garland be removed from office? There’s no chance of that, but the point is to make this as politically painful as possible. The members of the Biden administration need to be completely exposed and made to operate in an environment where voters know exactly who they are. Let’s get it all out in the open, and when Democrats inevitably vote to save Garland in the Senate, they’ll own it, lock, stock, and barrel.

  • Pre-Planned Incitement Allegations

Trump Offered to Deploy 10,000 National Guard Troops in DC Ahead of Jan. 6: Mark Meadows

Former President Donald Trump offered to deploy 10,000 National Guard troops in Washington D.C. prior to Jan. 6, the day of the Capitol building breach, according to former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows.

Meadows told Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” that although Trump had been vocal about offering Capitol Police and National Guard presence at the Capitol on multiple occasions last month, his offer was rebuked “every time.”

“We also know that in January, but also throughout the summer, that the president was very vocal in making sure that we had plenty of National Guard, plenty of additional support because he supports our rule of law and supports our law enforcement and offered additional help,” Meadows told host Maria Bartiromo.

“Even in January, that was a given, as many as 10,000 National Guard troops were told to be on the ready by the Secretary of Defense” Meadows said. “That was a direct order from President Trump and yet here is what we see … all kinds of blame going around but yet not a whole lot of accountability.”

“That accountability needs to rest where it ultimately should be and that’s on Capitol Hill” Meadows added.

The Pentagon and the office of Washington D.C. mayor Muriel Bowser didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment by The Epoch Times.

Democrats allege that the president incited the violence at the Capitol in a speech he delivered near the White House on Jan 6. In his address, Trump used the words “fight like hell” in reference to his team’s legal efforts around election integrity. The Democrats allege that Trump used the words to incite his followers to commit violence.

House Democrats, joined by 10 Republicans, voted on Jan. 13 to approve a single article of impeachment against Trump for “incitement of insurrection,” making him the first president to be impeached twice. When the Senate trial opens on Feb. 9, he will become the first former president to stand trial.

Meadows described the impeachment effort against the former president as “political theater.”

“It’s really about Democrats trying to once again make a political point,” he said. “This whole impeachment is designed to remove someone from office. President Trump is a private citizen at this point. And yet they can’t stand it. They have to continue to go ahead and try to put forth some kind of narrative that scores political points.”

He added, “But we have seen it before. The American people are not going to have it. We have already had 45 senators say that this is unconstitutional. But it’s more than that. It’s a violation of due process. It’s not what our founding fathers set up. And it sets a very bad precedent of future officeholders.”

Evidence Mounts that Capitol Breach Was Pre-Planned, Eroding Incitement Allegation in Trump Impeachment Trial

As former President Donald Trump’s Tuesday impeachment trial approaches, there is a growing body of evidence in criminal complaints and affidavits that the Jan. 6 Capitol breach had been pre-planned, undercutting the allegation leveled against Trump that he is guilty of “incitement to insurrection.”

A number of FBI affidavits filed in support of various charges—including conspiracy—against accused participants in the Capitol breach show evidence of pre-planning, reinforcing an argument made by critics of the impeachment trial against Trump, namely that participants couldn’t have been incited by the president to break into the building if they had earlier planned to do so.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said recently that parts of the Capitol incident had been coordinated well before Trump’s Jan. 6 speech. Trump’s accusers have described the speech as a call to storm the building.

While Trump said in his speech that “we fight like hell and if you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore,” the former president appeared to be making a general reference to political activism, as he called on supporters to “peacefully and patriotically” make their voices heard during the Jan. 6 joint session of Congress.

Man Charged in Capitol Riot Worked for FBI and Had Security Clearance, Attorney Says

The lawyer for a man who was charged in the Jan. 6 Capitol riots said the defendant has held a top-secret security clearance for decades and previously worked for the FBI.

Thomas Caldwell, who authorities believe has a leadership role in the Oath Keepers group, worked as a section chief for the federal law enforcement agency from 2009 to 2010 after he retired from the U.S. Navy, said his lawyer in a court motion.

Caldwell has denied being a part of the Oath Keepers, said attorney Thomas Plofchan.

“He has been vetted and found numerous times as a person worthy of the trust and confidence of the United States government, as indicated by granting him Top Secret clearances,” Plofchan wrote in a motion.

His lawyer, according to court documents, said Caldwell, 66, denies he ever went to the Capitol and has “physical limitations” that prevent him from breaching a building. “Moving, sitting for extended periods of time, lifting, carrying, and other physical activities are extremely painful and Caldwell is limited in his ability to engage in them,” the motion added.

“Caldwell is not a member of the organization, nor has he ever been a member of the organization, and if he were, such membership would be protected activity under the First Amendment,” wrote Plofchan, who added that the government hasn’t provided a photo or video that shows Caldwell in the Capitol building on Jan. 6.

Dem Impeachment Case Leans On Legal Scholar Who Says Their Use Of His Position Is Based On Erroneous CNN Claim.

Rep. Neguse (D-CO) – one of the Democrat impeachment managers – leant on a 21-year-old case made by Turley advocating for the post-presidential impeachment of Donald Trump.

Turley’s work on this matter, they claim, is key. But Turley himself says they got it wrong.

Rep. Neguse cited a 21-year-old piece of work by Turley and tried to pass it off as a few weeks old. Turley – who says his views have now “evolved” – corrected the claim on Twitter and undermining a key component of the Democrat case:

    Turley recently wrote:

In my 1999 Duke Law Journal article on impeachment, I wrote that “[t]he Senate majority, however, was correct in its view that impeachments historically extended to former officials, such as Warren Hastings.” See Jonathan Turley, Senate Trials and Factional Disputes: Impeachment as a Madisonian Device, 49 Duke Law Journal 1-146 (1999)(emphasis added). Strangely, some have cited that line to show that I have changed my position on the subject. It doesn’t. It indeed was used retroactively in Great Britain as a historical matter, which I have always acknowledged. Yet, there are significant differences in the use of impeachment in both countries. Indeed, the colonial impeachments were strikingly different in many respects. As I noted in the Duke article, “Even if the only penalty is disqualification from future office, the open presentation of the evidence and witnesses represents the very element that was missing in colonial impeachments.”

Indeed Turley walked his audience through lawyer Laurence Tribe’s own partisan about-face on the issue recently, revealing how Tribe once stood against retroactive prosecutions but now – for Trump – agrees with them. Tribe once wrote:

“Removing a President, even just impeaching him, paralyzes the country. Removing him decapitates a coordinate branch. And remember that the President’s limited term provides a kind of check, and if the check fails, he can be prosecuted when he leaves. To impeach on the novel basis suggested here when we have impeached only one President in our history, and we have lived to see that action universally condemned; and when we have the wisdom not to impeach Presidents Reagan or Bush over Iran-Contra; and when we have come close to impeaching only one other President for the most wide-ranging abuse of presidential power subversive of the Constitution would lower the bar dramatically, would trivialize a vital check.”

It was Tribe who first claimed Turley agreed with retroactive impeachments in a recent interview. Turley’s views on the matter were over 20 years ago, when Tribe’s own views were the polar opposite.

In other words, the Democrat impeachment managers appear to have included untrue comments about Turley’s current position not on the basis of what Turley actually said, but what Tribe claimed Turley had said in a CNN interview.

I even went back and found the clip, which features Tribe calling Turley a hack, then attributing a statement from 21 years ago to “not so long ago.”

FLASHBACK – TWENTY MINUTES after the inauguration of President Donald Trump on January 20, 2017 ; the Washington Post announces the First Impeachment Trial
Comment – four years of planning a coup & insurrection & impeachment, AGAIN. The probability that the the WRONG party is being impeached increases daily.

The campaign to impeach President Trump has begun

The effort to impeach President Donald Trump is already underway.

At the moment, the new commander in chief was sworn in, a campaign to build public support for his impeachment went live at ImpeachDonaldTrumpNow.org, spearheaded by two liberal advocacy groups aiming to lay the groundwork for his eventual ejection from the White House.

The organizers behind the campaign, Free Speech for People, and RootsAction, are hinging their case on Trump’s insistence on maintaining ownership of his luxury hotel and golf course business while in office. Ethics experts have warned that his financial holdings could potentially lead to constitutional violations and undermine public faith in his decision-making.

Their effort is early, strategists admit. But they insist it is not premature — even if it triggers an angry backlash from those who will argue that they are not giving the new president a chance.

  • Up and Down Day In Michigan

Up and Down Day In Michigan

Earlier today, three Republican state representatives in Michigan introduced an impeachment resolution against governor Gretchen Whitmer. Reps. Beau LaFave, Matt Maddock, and Daire Rendon put forth the resolution, stating that Whitmer had gone well and beyond their constitutional authority during the pandemic.

Whereas, In responding to the COVID-19 Pandemic, Gretchen E. Whitmer has acted in conflict with her constitutional duties as Governor. She has exceeded her constitutional authority, violated the constitutional rights of the people of Michigan, issued orders that are not in the best interests of the people of this state, and used the Pandemic as an opportunity to reward political allies. These actions are a matter of public record, primarily in the form of executive orders and the enforcement thereof; now, therefore, be it Resolved by the House of Representatives, That Gretchen E. Whitmer, Governor of the state of Michigan, is impeached for corrupt conduct in office and for crimes and misdemeanors.

However, House Speaker Lee Chatfield, a Republican, has made it clear the impeachment will not advance in the House while he is the Speaker.

“It’s no secret that I have disagreed with this governor. I have debated a lot with this governor. I have many differences with how the governor has handled COVID. We have a time and place to deal with differences — that’s at the ballot box. The voters of the state of Michigan will have a chance to choose in 2022,” Chatfield said in a statement, “Republicans are not the party of people who impeach just because they disagree with someone. We just saw that in Washington. We’re not going to do that in the state of Michigan. With the facts that we have, the impeachment resolution is not going to get a vote on the House floor. It’s not the right way to deal with this situation or this disagreement.”
