Vegas Shooter Update

Yesterday I wrote about a good guy with a gun stopping a potential mass shooting. Well, today I have an update for you.

KLAS is reporting that the potential shooter has been identified and is facing charges:

Prosecutors have charged Andrew Warrender, 32, with attempted murder, two counts of assault with the use of a deadly weapon, and illegally discharging a gun, documents said.

Warrender was in custody at the Clark County Detention Center as of Tuesday without bail.

Warrender’s attorney, Richard Schonfeld, has asked a Clark County judge to postpone his client’s court hearings until he is able to attend court. Records show Warrender did not attend a hearing Tuesday due to medical reasons.

It is apparent that the LVMPD is treating this as an active shooter/self defense case.

LVMPD has not officially released any identifying information about the employee of Turnberry Towers who intervened, possibly due to concerns about running afoul of Marsy’s Law, which prevents disclosure of information about a victim that can assist a defendant in locating or harassing the victim or their family.

Turnberry Towers condominiums

There was an incident at a high end Las Vegas condo last week and I’ll bet you haven’t heard a peep about it.

A potential mass shooter entered the Turnberry Towers at 222 Karen ave in Vegas. Video shows the shooter milling about in the lobby of the complex carrying a rifle and wearing some sort of helmet. (The tweet will not embed, it’s marked ‘sensitive content’, if you want to see click this link.)

At some point an employee of the complex engages the shooter with his concealed carry handgun.

From KTNV:

. . . a man wearing a helmet had an AR-15 and other weapons when he entered the towers Friday afternoon.

This is when the resident tells us the man fired shots in the area of the front desk, shattering glass which is shown in pictures they have provided to us.

The resident says it was an employee of the towers who stopped the attack, and thinks they are a hero who deserves recognition for stepping in.

The potential shooter is still alive and in critical condition. And as of this writing the hero of our little story has not been charged.

Now it seems that the LVMPD is actively trying to suppress this story.

Last Friday, LVPD responded to a shooting at a luxury condo just off the Las Vegas strip. The initial reporting on it looked generally like this:

None of these reports mention HOW the employee stopped the gunman. Was it a rugby tackle? Persuasion? Sorcery? An Old Testament-style act of Divine Intervention and super-natural strength?

Apparently, no one can be bothered to ask these things or report on them.

Now, here's where it gets weird.

This video is everywhere. Readily findable. Easily proves that a would-be active shooter was stopped by a good guy with a gun.

And the police are just pretending like they have no idea what happened.

Again, this has been FOUR DAYS since the incident. They obviously have this information. And some of the questions have obvious answers that they need only confirm – like yes, duh, the gunman was shot by someone who wasn't a cop.

Now, do I understand that if the employee isn't a suspect, his identity should be protected? Yes. Do I understand that there may be legal implications for him if his employer didn't know he was armed or if he didn't have a CCW? Yes.

But I'm not asking for that information.

Four days, and LVPD apparently doesn't think it's important to clarify basic facts of an incident that would probably garner national attention.

They'd prefer you just move along, folks, because what does it matter if a good guy with a gun saved lives?

I have to wonder why the LVMPD is trying to keep this quiet. Are charges imminent? Is there something going on with the ‘shooter’ that they feel the need to hide?
