It has been less than 24 hours since Donald Trump took the oath of office and commenced his second term as President and the firings have already started. More than a thousand political appointees have been fired so far.
There were some notable names among them. Jose Andres from the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition, Mark Milley from the National Infrastructure Advisory Council, Brian Hook from the Wilson Center for Scholars, and Keisha Lance Bottoms from the President’s Export Council were all dismissed last night.
Chef Jose Andres made the news, at least in MAGA circles, for having his photo taken with Ryan Routh, the Mar-a-Lago assassin. Andres hasn’t met a left-wing cause he didn’t love.
We all know about Milley, the disloyal former Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Hook was Biden’s special envoy to Iran, and that connection alone is enough to get him fired.
Keisha Lance Bottoms was a single term mayor of Atlanta. Her tenure was marked by several scandals including a major campaign finance issue. She served in the Biden White House as director of the office of public liaison.
Trump didn’t stop with the political appointees though.
The Commandant of the Coast Guard was fired this morning. Admiral Linda Fagen had been the Commandant since 2022. She was the first woman to be the head of any Branch of the US armed forces. She was also a die-hard DEI adherent, and that is what got her fired. Her tenure as Commandant was marked by issues like recruitment struggles, operational failures, and resource management.
I expect there to be more firings. A lot more. We all know the major issues in Trump’s last term stemmed from the hold-overs from the previous administrations. He needs to clean house and clean house fast. Expect more of this kind of post over the next few weeks.
