The New York City Health Commissioner, Oxiris Barbot resigned today, taking shots at mayor Bill DeBlasio on the way out. Among other things, she’s mad that Bill moved the tracking and coordination of the city’s covid response out of her office.


The Trump campaign seems to be having big success in registering new voters. They’ve closed the gap in all the key battleground states with more than 100,000 new registrations for this cycle.

Now they just have to vote. . . .


Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner has instructed the Houston Police Department to first issue warnings with citations to those who are not wearing a face mask. Then, if the warning is not heeded and the person refuses to put on a mask, a fine of $250 will be levied.

The remnants of Hurricane Isaias continue to pound the east coast. As of 1600EDT, the storm center was about 50 miles due south of Albany NY. It’s left about 3 million without power, from North Carolina to Connecticut.

Your editor experienced heavy rain for most of the day, although it stopped here around 1630 and the sun is out now.


Footage of the George Floyd incident has been leaked to the media. Floyd’s death while in police custody set off the past three months of unrest and rioting. This editor has better things to do with his time than watch. It’s out there for those of you interested. . . .



The Boston SWAT team that caught Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is being disbanded. The team has not been used in recent years and has already been reduced to five or six officers.


The Census Bureau has announced that the 2020 census count will end on September 30 rather than October 31. The count was originally supposed to end in July, but the coronavirus panic  made that impossible. Meanwhile, the usual suspects are screeching about the extension ending early.
