I had be talkin with my mother about Christmas
and how things were done in the Bronze Age even she smiled at that
(a rare thing)
think in these terms
she’s tryin to pull the wool over God’s eyes for this is not the woman I’ve known all my life
all this niceness it ain’t right man
She mentioned when she was a small child right around deer season
things seemed to disappear such as skates and the sled
things mostly used outside with some inside stuff as well, then when she like 12 or so is when the secret was found out imagine blaming your brothers or sister for leaving things some where, things you had to share and couldn’t be found she mentioned about sore asses in a hurried sort of way.
Back then, there was no money for new things at Christmas so parents would take items and made all new again,
new paint jobs, polished skates and sharpened blades, dresses for dolls the toboggan would get hand sanded, new varnish along with new rope
She said, none of the kids ever figured it out when they opened the few gifts there were under the tree
old gifts made new again
I said mother you know our RestingBitchFace governor has closed many small businesses yet places like a walmart are still operating which isn’t right
many families are hurting already
” you shouldn’t talk like that, but from you not unexpected”
So while I’m out at the smokers making gifts of the finest sort
try livin without food & see how far ya get
double smoked hams
different kinds of sausages
Buku jerky
even smoked buffalo bones for the dogs
( I know only one cat “Slick” and he’s been tramatized ever since I took him outta the barn)
Slick gets a little bag of catnip
to which sis will say the same thing she always says
“you gotta stop giving slick catnip he’s nutz enough”
Maybe that’s what I’m actually doing
making happiness the old fashion way
Homemade
I betcha if many others did the homemade
China and Bezos would take notice
don’t matter what you are good at making
it’ll cause happiness when given as a gift
