Legendary airman Chuck Yeager dead at 97
Legendary airman Chuck Yeager died on Monday night at age 97, according to a post on his verified Twitter account.
Yeager was the first pilot to break the sound barrier.
The test pilot’s death was announced with a heartfelt statement from his wife of 17 years, Victoria Yeager.
“It is w/ profound sorrow, I must tell you that my life love General Chuck Yeager passed just before 9pm ET,” she wrote on his account.
“An incredible life well lived, America’s greatest Pilot, & a legacy of strength, adventure, & patriotism will be remembered forever.”
