Disney Releases ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Trailer and It Is Everything Fans Would Want It to Be
To say that I am a bit of a Star Wars geek would be an understatement. While the sequel trilogy left a great deal to be desired, the Star Wars Universe has been treated quite well by the various Disney+ series, including Season 7 of “Clone Wars,” “The Bad Batch,” “The Mandalorian,” and the “Book of Boba Fett.” I have long held that Star Wars is safe in the hands of Dave Filoni and now, Jon Favreau.
When it was announced Disney was going to be producing a new series with Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi returning, I remained cautiously optimistic that they would handle the series properly. When it was announced that John Williams was going to be returning to do the music, it felt like they were treating this more like a cinematic event than a limited-run television show. Later, it was announced that Hayden Christensen would be reprising his role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, geeks across Star-Wars-dom became ridiculously excited.
Like Master Yoda, patient we have been, as we have waited for the trailer of the show debuting on Disney+ on May 25. While “May The Fourth” (as in May the Fourth be with you) seemed like a natural debut day, May the 25th marks the 45th anniversary of the first time moviegoers were introduced to the old-man hermit from Tatooine.
Today, that trailer was released, and wow, is it going to be intense:
The trailer contains elements from the original trilogy, the prequel trilogy, “The Clone Wars,” and “Rebels.” We are given a look at the first time we have seen the Grand Inquisitor or Fifth Brother in live-action (both from “Rebels”), and a new inquisitor on the hunt of the Jedi. There’s Joel Edgerton reprising his role as Owen Lars, a role he hasn’t been seen in since the end of “Revenge of the Sith,” nearly 17 years ago, as well as a young Luke playing like he’s flying a starfighter.
While there are still more than two months before the show debuts, the hype continues to build, and this trailer only makes it that much more intense! If you haven’t watched “The Clone Wars” or “Rebels,” now is your chance to catch up on the whole saga. Both can be found on Disney +.
