Friday Fun

Welcome to Friday fun, MVAPs weekly foray into the sublime and ridiculous.

It’s invasive species week and my fav Twitter/X account is out with a banger of a thread. . .

As a side note, I’ve witnessed first hand the issues invasive/non-native species can cause. Here in Upstate NY, we’re dealing with two kinds of invasive mussels, two kinds of invasive gobies, goldfish, ‘rock snot’ aka didymo and several others.

Wild goldfish caught near Oswego on Lake Ontario

There are cleaning requirements for boats and other watercraft in place in several of the Finger Lakes and a bunch of other, smaller lakes because of the mussel problem. One of my favorite trout streams is all but dead at this point because of didymo.
