Random News And Notes

I realize that I am on the opposite side of the Russo-Ukraine conflict from most of you. I wish nothing but terminal diarrhea on any-and-every Russian involved in it. That said, I think everyone can find the humor in this:

The Yakolev 52 is a Soviet era radial engined light training aircraft. The first airframe of that type was built in 1976 and serial production ended in the 1990s.

SCOTUS weighed in on the Trump administrations use of the Alien Enemies Act to deport Tren de Aragua gang members. Despite what the headlines might say, it isn’t the end of using the AEA for deportations.

BTW, Cynical Publius is a retired Army Colonel and current attorney. If you are on Twitter/X he’s worth a follow.

The Supremes did not say anything about the legality of those kinds of deportations. They only remanded the case back to the 5th circuit for more proceedings. The one thing they did rule on was that the 24 hours of notice of removal likely wasn’t enough.

The second leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown is today. Post time at the 150th running of the Preakness is set for 1905.

Because Sovereignty, the Kentucky Derby winner, isn’t running there will be no Triple Crown winner this year. The Favorite, at least at the time of writing, is Journalism, the Derby runner-up, at 8-5.

Portions of the audio of special prosecutor Robert Hur’s interrogation of Joe Biden. It’s worse than you would have thought from reading the transcripts.

I mean it’s bad bad. This is a blow by blow of just one small portion of the questioning.

The interrogation became tense at several points when Biden’s attorney stepped in to correct him. From the Axios article:

Biden attorney Bob Bauer chastised prosecutor Krickbaum for leading Biden to consider changing his story about why he kept a classified document about Afghanistan.

  • “Your answer is that you don’t know,” Bauer instructed the president at one point.
  • But then Krickbaum noted that journalists had written about the document, and he asked if Biden intended to keep it because of its historical value.
  • “I guess I wanted to hang onto it just for posterity’s sake,” Biden acknowledged.

That admission of intent technically could have exposed Biden to criminal charges

I may write about this in more depth if and when I listen to all the audio released so far. At this point only about 20 minutes worth have been seen err heard so far. Regardless, there needs to be a reckoning for everyone involved in the coverup of Biden’s decline. I am not holding my breath tho. . .

You all know that I am into all things 2A. Well, here’s some good news on that front. The Trump DOJ just moved to have all litigation regarding forced reset triggers dismissed. Last summer the Biden DOJ lost a case called National Association of Gun Rights v Garland. The judge in that case determined that FRTs were not machine guns under the National Firarms Act of 1934. The DOJ appealed but there has not been a ruling.

If you’re interested in more about this, let me know. I am always on the lookout for topics of interest to y’all.

In baseball news, it’s the Subway Series this weekend. The New York Yankees are hosting their cross-town rivals the Mets. The Yanks won 6-2 last night with Carlos Rodon picking up the W and closer Luke Weaver picking up the save.

Yankees slugger Aaron Judge leads the league in just about every offensive category. His .409 batting average, .495 on base percentage, .776 slug and 1.261 OPS are all more than 100 points higher than the #2 player in each category. He is – at the time of this writing – 1 Homer behind the Dodger’s Shohei Ohtani with 15. And to forestall the its early crowd, more than a quarter of the season is gone already.
