Reports: Waltz Out as NSA

There is a bunch of reporting indicating Trump’s National Security Advisor Mike Waltz is leaving his position along with his deputy Alex Wong. Waltz, a former Florida congressman, was tapped by Trump to be his NSA early on in the campaign.

His tenure has been marked with at least one scandal; Signalgate*. Waltz took responsibility for adding Atlantic editor Jeffery Goldberg to a group chat where a raid on Yemen was discussed.

While the exact reason is unknown, the Signal issue seems as likely as any other.

Among those rumored to be replacements is one of the people around Trump that I consider least qualified for this – or frankly any other including the one he currently occupies – position, Steve Witkoff.

*Your editor has a deep dislike of appending -gate to any incipient scandal. It smacks of lazy condescension and a lack of creativity. It supposedly hearkens back to the Watergate scandal, however, the name of the apartment/office complex located at the intersection of New Hampshire and Virginia Avenues NW in Washington DC is The Watergate. One word, three syllables.
