MVAP Sports: The Belmont Stakes
Today is the 157th running of the third and final leg of horse racings Triple Crown, the Belmont Stakes.
It is not being run at Belmont Park in Elmont NY – in Nassau County on Long Island -, as the racetrack is being upgraded and has been under construction for the past year plus. Instead, the entire race program including the Stakes is being held at Saratoga race course in Saratoga Springs NY. Saratoga Springs is north of Albany near the headwaters of the Hudson river.
The eight-horse 2025 Belmont Stakes lineup is highlighted by Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty and Preakness Stakes winner Journalism. Sovereignty enters after skipping the Preakness, but has won three of the six races he has entered. Journalism, meanwhile, has five wins in seven career races.
