Random News and Notes

This is setting up to be a rather depressing RNN. Lots of bad things have happened in the last 24 or so hours.

We’ll start in India where there was a major airliner disaster. An Air India 787 Dreamliner crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad. It slammed into a doctors office and exploded. It is presumed all 242 souls aboard are dead.

The number of fatalities is expected to grow as the fires are extinguished and the impact area is searched.

Bonchie over at RedState posits it was pilot error based on the videos he’s seen. He would know, he is/was a commercial pilot who flew the big iron. I will withhold my amateur opinion until there is more known.

Here are a couple of more sad notes to pass along.

First, Brian Wilson, musical genius and founder of the Beach Boys has passed. He was 82. His family has not released any details about his death.

Author and one-time British spy Frederick Forsyth died 9 June. He was 86. Forsyth was a prolific novelist who is probably best known for 1971’s The Day of the Jackal. He also penned the novella the Shepherd, a radio adaptation of which appears here at MVAP every Christmas Eve.

Requiescat in pace

In our final sad note – trust me it’s sad, I’m losing all kinds of material for the site – David Hogg has been removed from his position in the DNC hierarchy. Apparently he isn’t diverse enough.

I can’t imagine that whinging little soyjac will go quietly. So I got that going for me. For a while any way.

The Trump administration announced that all non-essential personnel will be evacuated from all embassies in the Middle East yesterday. This comes on the heels of a warning to mariners from the UKMTO, the premier organization for this type of thing.

After seeing the warning yesterday, I did a bit of a dive into the why and why now. The IAEA just released a report stating Iran is in open violation of their responsibilities regarding their nuclear program. It doesn’t help that both the Ayatollahs and Trump are sabre rattling. I expected something to pop last night and was honestly a bit surprised when nothing happened.

On to the riots. There is little new to talk about overall. I ran across a couple of posts on Twitter that I thought were share worthy. First is this gem.

Homie thought he was getting away with it, then he gets laid out. White shirt guy needs an NFL tryout if you ask me. His form and execution was flawless, Head up, arms wrapped, followed through and drove through the tackle. Yeah buddy!

Yesterday – or the day before, I spend way too much time looking at this stuff to keep it all straight all the time – an individual was caught on video distributing fairly expensive face shields to rioters. Well, he got identified and was arrested.

Details are thin, but it looks like Alejandro Theodoro Orellana got picked up by the FBI near or at his place of residence early this morning. The charge he is facing carries a 5 year sentence and a fine of up to $250,000.

In a related note, Josh Hawley, US Senator from Missouri, has announced he is investigating who is funding the riots.

It’s a start I guess. The problem is, the unrest is not going to stop until the funding dries up and that means arrests and prosecutions. Until I see that I am withholding my approbation.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is reminding Floridians that they can run over protesters that try to block the roads.

“If you’re driving on one of those streets and a mob comes and surrounds your vehicle and threatens you, you have a right to flee for your safety. If you drive off and you hit one of these people, that’s their fault”

A 2021 law changed the liability rules during riots, removing it from drivers and placing it on those blocking public thoroughfares.

4 Zyn pouches in his lip and just crushed 2 white monsters…you may learn things about human nature that you had not planned on learning.”
