Random News and Notes 12 July
With the lawfare about firing federal employees reined in, Secretary of State Marco Rubio has begun the process of doling out pink slips to 1300 State Department employees. The freakout has been glorious.
They are trying to gin up a resistance movement within State. PBS (IKR?) posted an image sent to them by one of the shitcanned employees.
However, if this is the weak sauce they are using, I doubt it will materialize. Also, as a former federal employee, I do not recall any part of my oath requiring me to ‘resist fascism’. Uphold and defend the Constitution, sure. Resisting anything, nah.
President Trump weighed in last night on the ICE raid at the Cali pot farm that went down Wednesday. He posted his directive to Truth social.
I’m all for that. But what really needs to happen is the feds need to go after the funders of this mayhem. Roll up a couple of big names and you can bet the funding – and thusly the protests – dries up completely.
Los Angeles mayor Karen Bass unveiled a program to aid illegals. She announced the City would be starting a ‘cash card’ program to assist illegals who were afraid to leave their homes. Yeah, you read that right. She plans on giving cash cards to illegals.
. . . to illegal aliens starting next week. “You have people who don’t want to leave their homes, who are not going to work, and they are in need of cash,” Bass said. Mayor Bass claims the money will not come from taxpayers but from philanthropic partners.
Aid to illegals being sketchy from a legal standpoint aside, I have issues with this. The ‘philanthropic’ partner Bass is talking about is an organization called CHIRLA or Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights in Los Angeles. CHIRLA is under Congressional investigation for misusing/misallocating federal funds. It is also 100% funded by government, be it local, state or federal.
In a call back to the previous story, CHIRLA thugs were arrested after the MacArthur park ICE action last week.
A Biden appointed federal district judge, Maame Ewusi-Mensah Frimpong, issued a TRO enjoining ICE from conducting certain immigration sweeps in 7 SoCal counties including LA.
While I doubt this order will stand, the mere fact that a district judge thinks it is within their power to issue such an order is a problem.
We close out with a couple of fishing stories for your Saturday. First up is a story out of Minnesota, lake Minnetonka in particular. Back in June, Greta Weix and her friend Christie Inman were after muskies on Minnetonka with noted guide Tanner Talbot. That’s when she hooked into the fish of a lifetime, a 53.25″ musky.

Once the monster was landed, a quick measurement was taken, a few photos snapped and then the fish was released back into the lake. The musky was estimated to weigh around 50 pounds. For reference, the current IGFA world record musky weighed 67 lbs, 8 oz and was more than 60″ long.
Our other fishing story takes place in Nantucket where a shore fisherman caught a sandbar shark which proceeded to bite him as the fish was being released. After being bitten on the leg, the angler was transported to the Nantucket hospital. He would be later life-flighted to a Boston area hospital for more treatment.

The shark did not seem to be all that large in the video that accompanied the article I read on the story. That said, a shark bite is a shark bite. Their mouths and teeth are designed to remove chunks of flesh.
Moral of the story? Don’t f*ck with sharks.
