Random News and Notes 26 July

Brooke Rollins, the Ag Secretary, has announced the Department was moving out of the District.

It’s a good idea, however I see some issues – at least in the mid-to-long term. The biggest of those issues being the desire of the permanent state to be close to the levers of power. Unless the office and lab space the USDA currently occupies is liquidated, the first Dem in power will move the whole kit and caboodle right back to where it was.

Two WNBA related stories in as many weeks, wtf is going on here? Anyway, Gatorade collaborated with the league on a new promotion campaign. And oh boy, it’s a doozy:

Now, your Editor is an avid sports fan and understands what the campaign is trying to do. However, a whole lot of people do not. Based on the Twitter comments, this is not going the way they thought it would.

Alexandria Occasional Cortex is in trouble. The House ethics committee has determined the NYC rep broke both House rules and tax laws when she attended the 2021 Met Gala.

She has been ordered to pay approximately $3700.

Hamas walked away from yet another negotiating session after refusing the latest cease-fire proposal from Israel and the US. President Trump was pretty blunt in his response:

You can chalk this latest refusal up to that fuckwit running France latest statements about recognizing ‘palestine’ as a sovereign nation. I covered that bullshite in yesterdays RNN. As President Trump said however, what Macron says about it doesn’t matter.

Lets be clear about a few things here, trying to strong-arm Israel the way Macron is trying to is only going to backfire. If we’re being totally honest, it will only make the situation in the Gaza Strip worse for the Gaza Arabs.

This one probably won’t interest most of you, but seeing as I really write RNN for myself, I’m going to include it.

There is an app called Tea. It is a women-only mobile app that allows users to anonymously share and access information about men they are dating, aiming to enhance safety by identifying red flags like catfishing or criminal records. It features tools like reverse image search, background checks, and a community group chat, and had over 1.6 million users as of July 2025.

There have been accusations – well founded ones – that the app was being used by vindictive women to target exes and other men. And then there is the issue the app itself is having with security.

It appears that the images used for user verification were all stored in a publicly accessible storage bucket. User selfies, drivers licenses and other PII was stored there. That bucket was found and the contents were published online. We here at MVAP do not as a rule publish PII or links to same, so they will not be here, but it’s a quick search away if you really want to find it.

I mentioned the brewing conflict between Thailand and Cambodia in yesterdays RNN. There is a small update. President Trump has gotten involved. He has made calls to the leaders of both countries looking to end the fighting.

As noted yesterday, this isn’t a new conflict, and it is not clear what, if anything, Trump’s mediation attempts will do.

We close on a sad note today. Another WWII Vet has gone to his eternal rest. Francis Ganley served on the  USS Texas (BB-35) during Operation Overlord, where he manned a 3″ anti-aircraft gun. Frank was 98.
