Random News and Notes 7 July

There were immigration related riots over the weekend. But they were not where you’d expect them to be. The location and reasoning surprised even this Editor. Both are doozies.

The riots broke out in Mexico City. And they weren’t anti-ICE riots. They were about the influx of legal migrants into Mexico. The locals are pissed that lots of non-Mexicans are moving into Mexico. It seems they are angry about the increase in cost of living. They smashed up shops and accosted tourists.

The irony. . .

This story just broke as I was writing this piece. There has been another ambush style attack on law enforcement. This time some retard attacked a Border Patrol facility in McAllen Texas. Details are scant at the moment, but rest assured, I will keep you up to date on this one.

. . . this was a purposeful ambush/attack against federal agents and a press conference is planned for later this morning. No federal agents injured. Im told a McAllen police officer may have been shot, but is in stable condition. Photos via law enforcement sources.

The DHS has issued a statement regarding this incident.

“This morning, an individual opened fired at the entrance of the United States Border Patrol sector annex in McAllen, Texas. Both Border Patrol agents and local police helped neutralize the shooter. This is an ongoing investigation led by the FBI. More information will be shared as it becomes available.”

I have been avoiding covering the negative coverage of the flooding in Kerr County, Texas. Frankly, none of us need that kind of vitriolic and reactionary nonsense in our lives. This one however has a bit of a happy ending. A Houston area pediatrician let loose with a hot take in the wake of the devastating flooding. Dr. Christina B. Propst thought it was a good idea to post this to facebook:

She quickly deleted, but the internet is forever. Now the good doctor is in the Find Out part of the FA FO equation. Her employers Blue Fish Peds and Memorial Hermann Health System have both cut ties with her over her post.

I dislike cancel culture generally. But this isn’t cancel culture, this is consequences. I will fight to the death so you can say what you want to, but be very aware that there may be consequences to what you said. This is one of them.

Here is a bit more on the Texas floods.

27 of their fellow campers and councilors didn’t make that trip to the reunification center with them.

Bibi Netanyahu is in DC for a State visit today. He and President Trump are meeting later today.

Among the topics on the agenda are Gaza, Iran and the Houthi in Yemen.

There is a protest scheduled outside the White House around the time of the Trump/Netanyahu meeting.

For those that missed this one from WhyNot in the comments of Chance’s ask Alice post this morning, a hero has arisen from the disaster in Texas. Petty Officer Scott Ruskan, a Coast Guard rescue swimmer saved 165 lives in the aftermath of the flooding on the Guadalupe river.

. . . and his fellow first responders embody the very spirit of the United States Coast Guard and the best of what it means to be an American. Thank you to the first responders.

BZ PO Ruskan.
