Random News and Notes 11 August
We kick off today’s edition of RNN in old Blighty. Some idjit decided to drop trou on a train and parade his plonker in front of a bunch o wee nippers. Well, some normal Brits were gobsmacked and ahem restrained the nutter.
Now the Bobbies are having a shufti for them. Seems they want to charge the guys with assault. Watch:
I can see why from a technical point of view, but come on. Me? I’d have just shot him in the meat and veg.
While I pay pretty close attention to international goings-on, I tend to not include most non-war related items here in RNN. I probably should add more geopolitical news going forward. Today seems like a good day to start. The Chinese Coast Guard and the People’s Liberation Army Navy (yeah, that is the actual official title of the CCP’s Naval service. Blame Mao.) had a run-in with a Pillipino vessel recently.
The two Chinese vessels were trying to chase the BRP Suluan, a Philippine Coast Guard vessel, from an area around the disputed Scarborough Shoal. It didn’t work. Worse, it actually led to a fairly violent collision between the two Chinese vessels. The CCG Corvette 3104 sustained heavy damage on its bows.
The Chinese claim Scarborough and several other areas in the South China Sea with little evidence other than the name of the body of water. The International Court of Arbitration voided Chinese claims on Scarborough Shoal back in 2016.
President Trump held a presser today to discuss his plans for law enforcement in Washington DC. He announced that he is invoking the D.C. Home Rule Act to place the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department under direct federal control. The Home Rule act allows him to assume control of the Metropolitan Police Department in emergencies.
The Act limits the amount of time the President can nationalize the DC police to 48 hours, but that can be extended indefinitely with Congressional approval.
Trump also announced the deployment of several hundred National Guardsmen to the District. It is unclear what they will be doing at this point.
It’s been a couple of days since I reported on the situation in Gaza. So, I went looking for something of interest. This is what I found.
Fat guy on the left? Yeah, he’s a Gaza Arab, likely Hamas or PIJ, yelling about having sugar for sale. Sugar he looted from UN aid deliveries. He only wants 40 shekels for a kilo. Someone else did the math and it’s about $11 a pound.
The emaciated guy on the right is 24 year old Israeli civilian Evyatar David. Evyatar was kidnapped from the Nova music festival on 10/7 and has been held by Hamas ever since.
Spare me the Gaza famine bullshite.
