Random News and Notes 27 August

Let’s kick off this edition of RNN with some good-ish news. A federal judge in Milwaukee has ruled that Minnesota state court judge Hannah Dugan is not immune from prosecution for aiding an illegal in his bid to escape ICE.

The case will now proceed to trial. Dugan faces up to 6 years in federal prison and a $350,000 fine.

President Trump went to his Truth social platform to make a pretty big statement today. He wants an investigation into George Soros, his son and their foundation for the financing of violent protests.

I dunno. I mean, I’m all for the investigations and potential charges if appropriate. I’m just not sure they are going to find an email or memo that specifically says this money is going to fund violence.

I made a comment at yesterday’s am conversation post about all Chinese nationals here in the US having fun ties to and spying for the CCP. Well, right on cue, we get news that a Chinese national, Yunhai Li, studying at the University of Texas has been charged with espionage and the theft of trade secrets.

I, generally speaking, trust the decisions Trump makes about things. I do have questions about his treatment of China and Russia however. Little he does with regards to those two countries – both geopolitical adversaries of the US – makes a whole lot of sense to me. The announcement of 600k Chinese students is one given the fact that every last fucking one of them is going to be a spy or worse.

Yesterday was the four year anniversary of the tragic attack on the Abbey Gate entrance to the Kabul airport. Thirteen US service members lost their lives when a suicide bomber detonated an explosive vest in the scrum at the gate.

President Trump held an event at the White House to honor the 13 that lost their lives.
