Random News and Notes 5 August

We start in Denmark this morning. Specifically the Aalborg zoo. The zoo is in the news because they asked for donations of unwanted pets to feed to the carnivores they have on exhibit.

Yeah, you read that right. They want to feed pets to other animals. The zoo says it’s to simulate the ‘natural food chain’. Aalborg Zoo in the Jutland region of Denmark covers 20 acres of land and opened in 1935. Every year, around 400,000 guests visit the establishment.

Sydney Sweeney has been in the news a lot lately. The American Eagle ad took off. It caused the lefties to melt down. Here is another look at Sydney, one you probably haven’t seen before.

Girly can run and gun. Incidentally, that looks like Taran Butler’s TTI range in Simi Valley. Taran Tactical is where Keanu Reeves got his training for the John Wick series. I wonder if Sidney is going to star in an action movie soon.

I noted that Texas house democrats had fled the state to prevent a quorum yesterday. Well, the Texas house has approved arrest warrants for them.

Texas Governor Greg  Abbott responded to the passing of the arrest warrants immediately by issuing an order to the Texas Department of Public Safety to track down the Democrats in question and return them to the House chamber.

We’ll see what comes of this in the coming hours.

There was a significant law enforcement operation in central Florida recently. Florida AG James Uthmeier announced 48 arrests were made as part of the operation. The multiagency op targeted child sex offenders. Included in the 48 arrests were 6 illegals.

The charges look like this:

  • Traveling to Meet a Minor for Illegal Sexual Conduct (34);
  • Human Trafficking (5);
  • Using a Computer to Solicit a Child for Sexual Conduct (48);
  • Unlawful Use of a Two-Way Communications Device to Facilitate a Felony (40);
  • Transmitting Material Harmful to a Minor (14);
  • Traveling to Meet a Minor for Illegal Sexual Conduct Facilitated by a Guardian (1);
  • Using a Computer to Solicit a Guardian for Illegal Sexual Conduct with a Child (1);
  • Fleeing to Elude a Law Enforcement Officer (1);
  • Resisting Arrest without Violence (2);
  • Drug Charges (4);
  • Drug Paraphernalia (1);
  • Reckless Driving (1); and
  • Violation of Probation (1).

Big props to all the agencies and officers involved.

I suppose I should point out that Ms. Ramirez’ husband is an illegal here under the unlawful DACA program.

President Trump was on the White House roof this morning. Why? I dunno.

Now for the seemingly obligatory Israel related segment. Most of you know this editor is of Irish extraction. His Mother was born and raised on the Emerald Isle, emigrating to the US – legally – in her late teens. There are still close familial connections to Ireland for him, so it comes as no surprise that a large percentage of the Irish are openly anti-Semitic. There are cultural and historical reasons for that sentiment.

Why bring this up? Because Irish President Michael Higgins is calling for UN military intervention in Gaza. Now, the Presidency in Ireland is a mostly symbolic and ceremonial position. Higgins has little real power, but it is emblematic of a larger issue in Irish society.

I will point out that there is little chance of Article 7 being invoked, as any permanent member of the security council can veto the motion. I cannot see the US allowing it to even get to that stage.

Higgins isn’t the only euro pol to have something to say about Israel. Sweden’s Deputy PM, Ebba Busch, had this to say:

She’s right.
