Baseball Season Roundup

The MLB regular season ended Sunday. Each team played 162 games. The Playoff picture did not come into focus until late Sunday afternoon.

The four wildcard series kick off at 1305 today with Detroit at Cleveland. The Tigers had a 15 game lead on the Indians at the All-star break and were up 10 games at the end of August. They blew that lead and are now a wildcard entry.

Some Season Stats

Cal Raleigh, the Mariners catcher, slugged 60 home runs this season. He was followed by Kyle Shwarber’s 56, Shohei Otani’s 55 and Aaron Judge’s 53. Raleigh nearly doubled his HR performance from last year.

Meanwhile, it was the 4th 50+ dinger season for Aaron Judge. Only 4 players have hit 50 or more 4 times. The others were Babe Ruth, Mark McGwire, and Sammy Sosa, and lets be honest, McGuire and Sosa cheated.

Judge was also the league leader in batting average at .331, on base % at .457, slugging % at .688 and on base + slugging at 1.145. He was the only player this season to have an OPS over 1. Toronto’s George Springer was #2 with a .959 OPS this year.

The Phillies Schwarber led MLB in RBI with 132.

The Yankees Jose Caballero led the majors in steals with 49, but not all were with the Bronx Bombers. He was a trade deadline pickup from Tampa Bay.

Kansas City’s Bobby Witt Jr lead the league in hits with 184 and doubles with 47. Arizona outfielder Corbin Carroll had more triples than anyone else in MLB with 17.

Yankee Max Fried led all of baseball with 19 wins this season. Garett Crochet of Boston fanned 255, leading 2nd place Tarik Skubal by 14. Pittsburgh’s Paul Skenes had the lowest ERA among starters with a 1.97.
