Random News and Notes 8 September

We start out with a story out of Beantown. This one’s a bit convoluted so stick with me. The payoff is worth it. Tania Fernandes Anderson was a member of the Boston city council. Anderson was born in Cape Verde and came to the US at the age of 10. (Bookmark this fact, it comes into play later.) She was elected to the council in 2021. She was the first African and first practicing Muslim on the Boston city council. The Boston Globe said “she has accomplished little besides picking a lot of pointless fights.”

That isn’t true however. She fell afoul of conflict of interest laws by hiring both her sister and son for positions in her offices. In a public statement State Ethics Commission executive director David Wilson said, “Fernandes Anderson’s actions as a Boston City Councilor concerning the appointment and compensation of her sister and son violated the conflict of interest law’s prohibition against municipal employees participating in their official capacity in matters in which they know members of their immediate family have a financial interest.”

In 2024, she was indicted on corruption charges. The FBI accused her of accepting kickbacks in a scheme that included federal monies. In April 2025 she pled guilty to one count of wire fraud and one count of theft, and agreed to step down from the council. Her sentencing was last week. The judge in the case,  Indira Talwani (name sound familiar?), sentenced her to one month in jail.

Remember I said she was an immigrant from Cape Verde? Well, here’s where it gets interesting. She was reportedly here – at least initially – illegally. I cannot confirm this, but I don’t have to, that is up to ICE. And it seems ICE is looking into her status. Could we be that lucky?

There was a terror attack in Jerusalem today. Arab gunmen killed 6 Israelis and wounded dozens more at a bus stop.

The killing stopped when armed civilians intervened. The two gunmen are probably pretty close to room temperature right now. Images exist of them lying on the sidewalk with some extra holes.

I hate to be a doomsayer, but it won’t be long before we see this shite here. So as Pooh says, Stay strapped or get clapped.

Jury selection for wanna-be Trump assassin Ryan Routh has begun. Routh is acting as his own attorney during these proceedings.

What I’ve seen of his pleadings so far point to someone who should not be handling their own finances never mind a complex legal defense. One filing indicated Routh wanted to call a former sex partner as a character witness. He said she would testify that he was a ‘peaceful’ person because he refused to slap her ass during sex.

I can only hope he talks himself into the Ol’ Sparky.

This next one happened not far from me. ICE raided a confectioners plant in Cato NY on Thursday. They detained 69 (nice) workers in the raid.

The facility produces meal replacement and protein bars for other companies.

It is my understanding that at least some of those detained have been moved to an ICE facility in Texas and deportation proceedings have started for them.
