Random News and Notes 16 October

As I told you in the last SCOTUS roundup, the Court would be hearing Louisiana v Callais, the racial gerrymandering/voting rights act case. Well, oral arguments for that case were yesterday. Of particular note was KBJ comparing blacks to disabled people. Wait, it was more than a comparison, she said Blacks were disabled. Listen:

. . . madness. How did she get on the Supreme Court?!
“My, kind of, paradigmatic example of this is something like the ADA. Congress passed the ADA against the backdrop of a world generally not accessible to people with disabilities…why is that not what’s happening here?!”

She went on: “The idea in Section 2 is that we are responding to current-day manifestations of past and present decisions that disadvantage minorities and make it so that they don’t have equal access to the voting system. Right? They’re disabled.”

It is times like this when I really wish Supreme Court proceedings were televised. I would have loved to have seen the look on Thomas’ face when she puked up that nonsense.

By the way, it looks very much like the VRA, at least the sections challenged here, are going away.

Levity break:

Back to SCOTUS and Louisiana v Callais for a second. Hashim Mooppan is the Principal Deputy Solicitor General. For those who don’t know, the Solicitor General is the official responsible for representing the government before the Supreme Court and overseeing federal appeals. Anyway, Mooppan was part of the team representing the US government in this case. He all but ended Sonya Sotomayor. Listen:

His exasperation with her stupidity is evident. The sigh when she interrupts the second time says it all.

It is day 14 of the Schumer Shutdown.

In todays shutdown news, a federal judge has blocked the use of RIF to reduce the federal workforce. SF U.S. District Judge Susan Illston issued a TRO barring the administration from laying off federal employees because and I quote “It’s a human cost that cannot be tolerated.

If the name sounds familiar it is because this is the same judge that got smacked down by SCOTUS 8-1 (I’ll let you guess who the one was) over very similar issues in June. I cannot imagine this order standing for long at all. Appeals are already underway.

San Fran Nan exploded at a reporter. I suspect it was a worse-than-normal hangover.

“Shut up! I did NOT refuse the National Guard – the president didn’t send it. Why are you coming here with Republican talking points as though you’re a serious journalist?”

“The American people want to know. We still have questions.”

HAHAHAHAHA

The commies Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Occasional Cortex appeared on CNN last night for some sort of retards townhall. It was CNN, so like 30 people watched, but it was apparently filled with highlights – or lowlights depending on what side of the aisle you are on. Of the ones that I’ve seen, this is my favorite:

The reaction says it all. She is going to primary Schumer. It also validates my thoughts that the whole point of the Schumer Shutdown is internal NY politics.

Then there is this gem:

To be fair, she probably meant DuPont, not Deloitte. That said, I am only aware of one river in the US catching fire due to pollution and that was the Cuyahoga in Cleveland.

Cleveland Rocks . . .
