Random News and Notes 30 October
As part of his now-concluded Asia trip, President Trump met with CCP President Xi Jinping yesterday/this morning. It seems the meeting was a success. According to the White House announcements, China has agreed to end the restrictions on the export of rare earth minerals and start purchasing US soybeans among other things. In return, the tariff rate the US is charging on Chinese goods will drop to 47%.
I hope the agreements stick, but as we have seen they do not always work out.
The annual White House Hallowe’en event is today. As part of the festivities, the WHite House posted this:
The Trump SocMed team is killing it. Wonder how much Barron is involved?
Erika Kirk made an appearance at a TPUSA event at Ole Miss last night. She delivered an incredible speech to the attendees.
. . .I could hear Charlie say: go reclaim that territory.
I encourage you to seek out the whole speech and give it a listen. It’s worth your time.
Today is day 30 of the Schumer Shutdown. In a floor speech yesterday, Senate Majority Leader John Thune went off on Democrats.
Thune is widely known to be a calm, levelheaded person, so this is indicative of his level of frustration. Remember, despite what the Dems and the MSM (but I repeat myself) are saying, this shutdown is an attempt by Chuck Schumer and Temu Obama to fend off attacks from their left.
Speaking of the MSM, the layoffs have begun at CBS. Some 2000 employees have been let go. At least 100 are in the news division. It seems the entire race and culture team was fired.
I told you a while back that Bari Weiss was taking over the networks news division. Weiss was once an editor for the NY Times until she was chased out by the woke mob. She then started Free Press, which grew into one of the largest online news outlets. While Weiss is a Dem, she is not on the far left. She dislikes woke nonsense, and typically calls things down the middle editorially speaking.
An Illinois politician, Kat Abughazaleh running for Congress in Illinois 9th, was indicted by the DOJ on charges of conspiracy to impede or injure a federal officer and assaulting or impeding an officer as they engaged in official duties at the Broadview ICE detention center. She faces up to 8 years in the federal pen if convicted. I shared video of this incident in the comments section a while back. It showed Abughazaleh being tossed around like a rag doll by ICE agents.
She is of course crying about being persecuted for “exercising our First Amendment rights” and called the indictment a “gross attempt to silence dissent.” That is not true of course, the minute she impeded federal officials she crossed the line into criminality. I really hope they make an example of her.
