Random News and Notes 31 October
It’s All Hallows Eve AKA Hallowe’en. Time for a bit of holiday history. Our current celebrations are based on the ancient Celtic holiday Samhain (pronounced saw-in or sow-in), the end of summer and harvest festival. The Celts believed that on this night, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. To celebrate this, they lit bonfires and wore costumes to ward off ghosts. Later, Christianity merged these pagan traditions with its own observances, such as All Saints’ Day on November 1st, and the name “Halloween” emerged from “All-Hallows’ Eve”. I hope you have enough candy set by to satisfy the rampaging hordes of trick-or-treaters.
Now, on to the news.
John Fetterman, he of the hoodies and shorts on the Senate floor, has emerged as a voice of reason in the Democrat party. He let his Dem colleagues know how he feels in no uncertain terms yesterday.
He gets it. I think he also knows that the whole thing is an attempt by the leadership to keep the far left of his party at bay. It won’t work.
The Gubernatorial race in New Jersey seems to have taken a back seat to the race in Virginia. It is close, very close, in the Garden State. Polls show Republican Jack Ciattarelli statistically tied with Dem Mikie Sherrill.
. . . BREAKING on the Republican side. If that breaks the way we think it can, and Republicans can turn out bigtime, this could be the upset!”
“The pollsters that have good records like us [Trafalgar/InsiderAdvantage] – they all have this race EXTREMELY tight.”
“The ones that consistently fail are skewing the averages.”
Republicans MUST step on the gas into November 4th with in-person early voting! MAKE IT HAPPEN!
If you live in America’s Armpit, get out and vote. If you know someone in Jersey, get them out to vote. Jersey could flip red.
I’m not sure what to make of this one. The Miami Herald, a lefty rag, is reporting that the decision to strike targets inside Venezuela has already been made and could happen within hours.
. . .to prosecute initial missions without the carrier.
Planned opening actions would emphasize electronic warfare, SEAD/DEAD against Venezuelan air-defence nodes, and robust CAP to contest Venezuelan air responses, paired with maritime and air strikes against ports, airstrips, and other military facilities identified as cartel logistics nodes.
Once the Gerald R. Ford CSG arrives, the air campaign could be readily expanded. Regional USMC elements and special operations forces present in-theater could also be tasked to conduct limited ground raids in support of the broader campaign.
Look, if I’m being honest, I have zero issues with dropping ordnance on Maduro and the rest of Venezuela. They fucked around and are about to find out. What I do have an issue with is the leaks to the Miami Herald. Unless this was authorized at the highest levels, whoever leaked this needs a very public defenestration. In the literal sense of the word.
Bill Kristol used to be a leading voice for conservatism. Trump broke him. He is now reduced to voting for the islamo-marxist running for NYC mayor, Zohran Mandami.
I suppose that’s what comes from chasing filthy lucre. . .
You may know the name of Federal Judge James Boasberg. Well, he may be in trouble. There are loud calls for him to be impeached over his handling of the Arctic Frost investigation. Among other things, he ordered cell carriers to not notify the targets – sitting Senators and Representatives – of the subpoenas that had been issued. Ted Cruz, who was one of the targets, is rightfully pissed off and calling for Boasberg’s impeachment.
Florida Rep Byron Donalds is now calling for impeachment. I feel I should note that the only way to punish a sitting federal judge is impeachment.
