Random News and Notes 20 November
Call me Ishmael.
Today in 1820 the US flagged Whale Ship the Essex was attacked and sunk by a sperm whale in the south Pacific. The incident would become the inspiration of Herman Melville’s tour de force Moby Dick. Of the 20 men aboard the Essex at the time it sank, 8 survived, three who opted to stay on a remote coral atoll and 5 who risked the journey to South America in open boats. Those in the boats resorted to cannibalism.
On this date in 1945, the Nuremberg trials began. 24 high ranking Nazis were put on trial for war crimes. Lord Justice Geoffrey Lawrence, the British member, presided over the proceedings, which lasted 10 months and consisted of 216 court sessions. On October 1, 1946, 12 architects of Nazi policy were sentenced to death. On October 16, 1946, the following 10 of the architects of Nazi policy were hanged: Hans Frank, Wilhelm Frick, Alfred Jodl, Ernst Kaltenbrunner, Wilhelm Keitel, Joachim von Ribbentrop, Alfred Rosenberg, Fritz Sauckel, Julius Streicher, and Arthur Seyss-Inquart. Hermann Goering committed suicide by poison on the eve of his scheduled execution. Martin Bormann had been sentenced to death in absentia.
On to the news of the day.
We start with a pretty big story out of South Florida. Last night, the DOJ announced it had secured an indictment against a sitting Congresswoman. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL) and her brother Edwin Cherfilus are facing multiple charges in connection with misuse/misappropriation/theft of $5 million in FEMA funding.
. . . According to the indictment, DOJ says:
“Cherfilus-McCormick, 46, and her brother Edwin Cherfilus, 51, both of Miramar, worked through their family health-care company on a FEMA-funded COVID-19 vaccination staffing contract in 2021. In July 2021, the company received an overpayment of $5 million in FEMA funds.
The indictment alleges that the defendants conspired to steal that $5 million and routed it through multiple accounts to disguise its source. Prosecutors allege that a substantial portion of the misappropriated funds was used as candidate contributions to Cherfilus-McCormick’s 2021 congressional campaign and for the personal benefit of the defendants.
he indictment further alleges that Cherfilus-McCormick and Nadege Leblanc, 46, of Miramar, arranged additional contributions using straw donors, funneling other monies from the FEMA-funded Covid-19 contract to friends and relatives who then donated to the campaign as if using their own money.
The indictment also charges Cherfilus-McCormick and her 2021 tax preparer David K. Spencer, 41, of Davie, with conspiring to file a false federal tax return. According to the indictment, they falsely claimed political spending and other personal expenses as business deductions and inflated charitable contributions in order to reduce her tax obligations.”
Cherfilus-McCormick represents Florida’s 20th Congressional district, the most Dem (+22) CD in Florida. It covers most of the majority-Black precincts in and around western and central Broward County and a small portion of southeastern Palm Beach County. She faces 53 years if convicted of all charges.
Everyone remember the shooting at an Alvarado, Texas ICE facility back in July? The one where AntiFa retards shot a local cop who responded? Yeah, there is some news on that incident. 5 people involved have pled guilty.
Nathan Baumann, Joy Gibson, Seth Sikes, Lynette Sharp and John Thomas each entered guilty pleas to one count of providing material support to terrorists in federal court in Fort Worth. They face up to 15 years in prison at sentencing.
Here’s something I didn’t expect to see: House Dems are fighting amongst themselves. It’s all over the shady crap that Jésus ‘Chuy’ Garcia pulled when he announced he wasn’t seeking another term.
You see, Chuy rigged the primary process in Illinois’s 4th district. He filed for his re-election campaign and waited until the deadline for a primary expired and announced he was retiring for health reasons. All well and good, except his chief of staff, Patty Garcia (no relation), had filed quietly and now she’s the sole Democrat running for the heavily Democratic seat. Heidi Gluesencamp Perez (D-WA) was not happy and filed a resolution condemning Chuy for his underhanded behavior.
You hate to see it. And by hate I mean love.
