Random News and Notes 14 December
Today is the first day of the Festival of Lights in the Jewish faith. Hanukkah celebrated the rededication of the second temple after Jerusalem was recovered from the seleucids. The festival is observed by lighting the candles of a candelabrum with nine branches, commonly called a menorah and lasts 8 days and nights.

Now onto the news.
Unfortunately, there is some sad Hanukkah related news to pass along. A pair of islamists in Australia shot up a Hanukkah gathering at Bondi beach in Sydney. At the time of writing, 12 are dead and 29 more had been shot during this attack.
. . . Power at any level, you need to understand that your cowardice and inaction in the face of constant antisemitism leads to violence against Jews.
Apparently, the 4 kangaroo cops on site did nothing to stop the shooting and it took a bystander, a bloke named Ahmed el Ahmed of all things, to stop the gunmen.
I hate that I have to say this, but expect more anti-semitic violence like this over the next 8 days. Just look at the rest of today’s RNN stories.
While we are on the subject of shootings, there was a shooting last night at Brown University in Rhode Island. 2 are dead and 9 more were injured.
Since the tweet above was posted last night, law enforcement in Providence has arrested a suspect. They so far have refused to name the shooter or give any clues as to his identity other than it is a male. It is rumored that the shooter targeted a Jewish econ professor and shouted something as he attacked. Even money says you know what was shouted even if the cops aren’t saying. . .
When your editor was a small boy he lived in Germany – specifically USAG Bavaria in Garmish-Partenkirchen. The Christmas markets were a highlight of my youth. Unfortunately, the markets have become a favored hunting ground for Jihadis. This year seems little different from the past few. German authorities have stopped a planned vehicle attack on a Christmas market in the Dingolfing-Landau area, north east of Munich. Three Moroccans, an Egyptian and a Syrian were detained on Friday over the plan to target a market.
. . . Authorities said they suspected an “Islamist motive”. (Pretends to be shocked)
Prosecutors said the Egyptian – a 56-year-old – was alleged to have “called for a vehicle attack… with the aim of killing or injuring as many people as possible”.
The Moroccans allegedly agreed to carry out the attack.
We shouldn’t have to live like this.
