This week’s musical selection comes to us via America’s Hat – Canada. Stan Rogers was a folk singer from Ontario. Our song for today, Barrett’s Privateers, tells the story of a Canada based, British privateer during the Revolutionary War from the perspective of one of the sailors on the doomed sloop Antelope as they pursue an American trade ship. The song was on the album Fogarty’s Cove, released in 1976.

Stan Rogers died alongside 22 other passengers on June 2, 1983, while travelling on Air Canada Flight 797. The airliner was flying to Toronto when a fire in the cabin forced it to make an emergency landing at the Greater Cincinnati Airport in northern Kentucky. Rogers was returning to Canada after performing at the the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas.
