Random News and Notes 26 January
Hopefully, everyone survived the storm that hammered the eastern half of the country. For your editor, it only reinforced the idea that the weather weenies only have a vague idea of what they are doing. We we’re forecast to get 14-18″ of snow. It wound up being around 8″ for this location, but higher amounts were recorded in the region. None were above 12″ though.
If you have pics or video of the storm in your area, post it in the comments.
A Bizjet crashed on takeoff from Bangor airport in Maine. The Bombardier Challenger 650, flying for Houston law firm Arnold & Itkin, crashed around 7:45 p.m. on January 25 at Bangor International Airport after de-icing amid light snow and subfreezing temperatures. It departed from runway 33 at 152 knots, veered right, flipped, and burst into fire, as captured in eyewitness photos and air traffic audio. The FAA and NTSB are probing the cause, with weather as a key focus, while the airport remains closed and recovery efforts push through the storm.
. . . Bangor International Airport @ 7:45 amid heavy snow.
– Booms could be heard throughout the area and a reported eight travelers are presumed dead.
– The LLC is registered to Jason Itkin and Kurt Arnold, two trial attorneys who’ve made waves fighting conservatives in Texas and defending illegal aliens. It is not known whether Itkin and Arnold were on board or why they were in Maine.
– The Texas Voice has reported: “Along with George Soros and other personal injury trial lawyers, both the Arnold & Itkin and Abraham Watkins law firms were major donors to the left-wing First Tuesday PAC during the 2024 election cycle… First Tuesday was responsible for a multi-million dollar ad campaign that encouraged voters to “Stop MAGA Republicans” and “Vote For Every Democrat.” The Arnold & Itkin and Abraham Watkins law firms each donated $300,000 to First Tuesday in support of their efforts to elect Democrats in 2024.”
Look, plane crashes are tragic. These men, if they were onboard, had families, kids are going to grow up without fathers. But at the same time, I feel little sympathy for them personally.
The Israel Defense Forces recovered and identified the remains of 24-year-old Ran Gvili, a hero from Meitar who defended Kibbutz Alumim despite being injured on October 7, 2023. In a complex operation called ‘Brave Heart,’ troops searched over 200 graves in northern Gaza before confirming his identity through dental records.
Prime Minister Netanyahu praised Gvili as a hero who ‘went in first and came out last,’ while his family can now mourn amid relief that all 251 hostages are accounted for. The recovery fulfills the first phase of a U.S.-brokered ceasefire, shifting focus to Gaza’s next steps.
Morgan L. Morrow, 39, is a librarian from Ripley, West Virginia. She now faces a terroristic threat charge after posting as ‘muskingummerrmaid’ on TikTok: ‘Surely a sniper with a terminal illness can’t be a big ask out of 343 million.’
She worked at the Jackson County Public Library, confirmed by a recent event post tagging her as an ‘elder emo, gamer, mom.’ Sheriff R.H. Mellinger called it an active criminal investigation based on tips, with Morrow booked into jail around 10 p.m. on Jan. 25; no bond has been set and the library has stayed silent on her status.
